My husbands grandson, (my stepgrandson) could not pronounce my name, Stephanie. We just figured he would call me Stephy. Well, one day, while playing Hide n Seek, he kept calling out "Sassy". It stuck. So now I am Sassy.

i love GiGi or MiMi as well, if you want something more original or personal

use her first initial and and the i's like donna would be DiDi (pronouced dee dee)

hopefully it isnt wendy (wiwi) lol

My husband's cousins call their step-grandmother Ma'am (shortform of madame). And they call their granddad Pap or Pappy. Sounds adorable coming from the kids and it was easy for them to say!

For step grandma names how about something like "GG Donna" or "MiMi Donna" I think adding your first name brings a whole new "cool" factor!

Lol! My mom and I went through this when my daughter was born. My daughter calls my mom "Gamsy", and my son calls her "Mama Bear"

I love Mimi too. My daughter calls her step-grandmother that and now it has passed to the older grandkids...good luck.

we let the grandparents decide what they wanted to be called (the cards they gave the kids helped determine it) some went by grammy, gramma . gramma

My kids call my Mom Boom Boom! It's funny because she is a younger grandma and there was a well known striper named Boom Boom something or other.

Yaya is easy and very cute....my Aunts grand babies call her that and now my children even call her yaya. My little one started calling her that at 4 months :) I know someone else already said it, but I think it's really cute and seems better than the original Nana and Grandma that seem to be a little older.

my mom became a grandmother at 45, a very young 45. no one can beleive she's a grandmother.

she didnt want nana or granny or even gramma. her boss is greek and she heard her boss's kids refer to their grandmother as Yaya.

my mom totally stole that... we're not greek. not in the least. but its fun and cute, and she still looks and feels young! (actually she's going to get yaya tattoo'd on her foot in a few weeks :P) pretty hip lady! lol

Hi, my mum asked the same question when she became a grandmother, as her grandmother, who refused to be a nanna was known as nonie to the grandchildren, she too wanted something younger sounding. She chose to go with Uma however the young children never quite got the hang of that and have always called her Ma instead.

Is there a way to shorten her christian name into something fun? My husbands step father had a new girlfriend after his mother passed. The new girlfriend was named sandra and it has been shortened to Sands. Its loving and gives her recognition without the possiblity of other members of the original family becoming upset.
So to my husband she has always been sands and when she became the 'grandmother' she left the choice to the childrens parents. Some call her Nan and some call her granny sands. One of my kids lets the S rol a little longer and finishes at the n. so she became Sann or sometimes sanny. in public it sounds the same as gran to other people who are around.
There are all sorts of ways of getting something nice happening. What about a european way of saying gran, so that step gran is different to other grans in the family, and the kids get an extra nan. (extra spoiling and extra pressies!!)
We used the last names for my husbands first step family so she was granny crew and the other gran was gran murphy.
A friend of mine uses the dutch OMa and Opa for her husbands parents so the children from the first marriage are no different to her other children. I like this because Oma is really sweet from a child of any age.
In todays world of blended familys it wouldnt be too strange to use another language for the 'tag'

GG is a good one already suggested. Not sure how most people use it, we used it for my grandmother when she became a great grandmother (thus the double g), but i have heard it used for a grandma. It sounds super cute when the little ones say it!! lol.

Mimzy? I heard it on Secret Life of An American Teenager. Idk if it could be used for a "young" grandmother? But its different from the normal grandma we are all used to hearing.
