Any ideas for games to play at a 1-year-old's birthday party? I don't think my 1-year-old would participate, but there will be a few toddlers there.

Here's what I did juat a few weeks ago at Ava's 1st B-Day party:
We had Free Play for the first hour and all the food was available in the kitchen. Moms came in at different times during that first hour ... so just saying hello and letting everyone settle in and get a bite to eat and letting the kids get accustomed to the playroom was GREAT! Then during the second hour we opened presents and then had the Birthday Cake afterwards. Then the third hour was watching ELMO's WORLD.
It worked great. I had ages from 6 months to 3 years and all of the kids were involved in everything and the Moms enjoyed the (very little) structure!
We planned some games w/our 1 year-old's party, but never actually got around to playing them! Things were so hectic w/all the other kids running around, opening presents, eating, etc. Kids are so good at entertaining themselves. We planned on a bean bag toss; a game where you tie balloons around everyone's ankles (grown ups too!) and then everyone has to run around trying to pop each other's balloons. If nothing else, it's fun for them just to run around w/a balloon tied around their ankles. Hope that helps!

Hi there! A lot of the times, kids just love to run and chase each other lol! I agree with the big carboard house. I rented a little trainset, that they could sit on, but my little one at that age, wanted nothing to do with it, she was too scared. I also rented a little indoor jungle gym. She liked that 'cause it had a slide. They also like to find things, so a hunt or even a treasure hunt in a little sand box is fun. I used a rubbermaid container, and just incase the litter ones wanted to eat the sand, I used a bunch of corn meal. That way it was safe to play in. They love stuff like that. You can also do an craft. :) I hope I helped!

hi, ive got 2 young children and i think the classic kids games such as pass the parcel are the best. your 1 year old will be able join in, the gifts in the game dont have to be expensive and 1 year olds just love to rip the paper off the parcels. both my children loved that game. hope your 1 year old enjoys their birthday.

A big cardboard house! You can put toys all through it and all the kids can play together in it. As far as actual games, maybe something kind of like an easter egg hunt with a different kind of toy, like bouncy balls (or something they would like at a dollar store). Whoever finds the most wins. I would hide them in obvious places of course. Or set it up like a race to put them through a small basket ball hoop. Just throwing some ideas out there! Good Luck! Mine is turning one soon too!
