My sons seems to be constantly constipated - have tried banana's, extra water, apple juice, kiwi fruit, coloxyl drops, parachoc and nothing really seems to help. Any ideas????

Miralax is what we finally ended up with its gental enough on their system but really keeps them regular. I went through this with both of my kids. Also mineral oil if they are really backed up, helps to loosen things up.

I hope you can get hold of ripe papaya. It always works! Good luck!

If you have tried everything you could using common sense, which is what I would do as well, and nothing is working. I would go talk to your doctor. Your son is probably so uncomfortable and crabby. which is gonna be ruff on you. i hope everything works out for you. get him to the doc mama. :oP

I thought it was crazy but my grandma told me to put a teaspoon of Caro syrup in 6 ounces of warm water and it works everytime. You can also try using mineral oil instead of caro syrup.

My daughter had the same prob...I think more so she was holding onto it rather than just constipation...Prune juice worked for me..(if you can get him to drink it!) Coloxyl drops just created belly ache :(

Good Luck.....

Try raisans or warm grapes( it may sound strange but it does work and it won't take many. Just set them out and use them at room temp or set them in the sun for about 10 minutes.) You can also use miralax, it is available at any drug store, it has no taste and can be mixed in any juice or water. I have to use this with my daugher, even though she eats lots of fruit she still gets backed up.

My son had constipation problems for well over a year. Started at about 2 years old. Tried lots of things and in the end Miralax and a lot of patience finally did the trick. Good news, he did learn to go when he needed to instead of holding it and now he is just fine. Good luck.

Prune juice is good, but you may have to water it down a bit or mix it with another juice to make it taste a bit better, I did this with my son when he was quite young, so I gave him a little mixed with water from a syringe

Pear juice is more effective than prunes and much yummier. Worked wonders with my little boy as he would drink it up. It is really yummy as a refreshing drink for kids while keeping them hydrated & regular. I buy mine from the health food store in concentrate and mix it with water just like cordial. If its a constant problem see your pediatrician, it may something as simple as a food intolerance, dairy is a common one.

My daughter is 4 and she has always had the same issue. My 2 sons fortunately do not.

My pediatrician told me that bananas actually will make your kids more constipated. What I do is feed my daughter a small baby jar of prunes every other day. She is 4 so I explained to her that prunes will help her go to the bathroom. It has really helped her and she actually likes the taste now. Grapes are also good for that problem.

Hope it helps your kids as well :)

Hey Alley, for Jaz we use prune juice mixed with water in her sippy cup. Seems to work pretty quickly too.

My 12 year old daughter went through that when she was a baby...We found that the problem was dairy products. She has outgrown it now thank goodness!! Talk to your pediatrician about substituting other things to make up for the loss of dairy products. We tried everything too and that was the only thing that seemed to help.

My son is 13 months old and has constant constipation...prune juice worked...however! PLUM JUICE is delicious(my husband drinks it too) and actually worked better for Brian because he would drink all of the diluted juice instead of just a little....Sometimes if he drinks enough, he will starting pooping within 10 minutes of drinking the juice. One time it was so bad that we got the "Little Tummies Laxative Drops" and that took care of it instantly! Good luck :)

Depending on the age...you can put a little corn syrup in a bottle. You can mix it in formula, milk or even just water, whatever your son will drink.

So many diffrent ways, if you drink fresh orange juice am sure it does it for you and most of us, if he is old enough then give him fresh orange juice, works well. If he is young then put sum in a bottle and water it down easy and cheap x

Liquifying his diet can help, but don't overdue it...You definitely don't want to push a lot of acidic stuff into him as it may result in larger issues...a properly balanced diet should ensure a healthy bowel system...However, if nothing seems to work, you may need to have him checked for an obstruction or hernia.

Not sure how old your little guy is but with my 7 yr old my doctor recommended Miralax. Only half the cap though, poured into some orange juice and he's been regular ever since!

I dont know how old he is, but my first daughter was very constipated from the get go. My old school babysitter told me to put a tablespoon of corn syrup in their bottle/cup. It really seemed to work.

Bananas may make the problem worse! We have that issue here and we give prune juice mixed with cereal. We were also told by the pediatrician to use pear, peach or white grape up to 5 oz two times a day for our 6 month old. Try those fruits or fruit juices and extra water if your child is old enough.

when my son was a newborn that was his problem . we found out it was because he milk has to much iron in it. then the constipation slow down but it was still there and we then was told to use mylcon. its a gas medicine but its safe to use for every bottle feeding or at every feeding and i promise you that was the sloution for us. it kept him regular.

I would check into MiraLax. You can put it eggs in the morning to help him go. You didn't say how old he is so i would check with his pediatrician.

Make sure he is also getting plenty of exercise. If he is super active give him plenty of water. No caffeinated beverages. Caffeine is a natural diuretic.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that he gets a serving of Danactiv yogurt every single day and a cup of plum juice every other day to help with his constipation.

One of my sons has had constipation issues since birth, and he's now 4 years old. We've done the Miralax thing, and high fiber diet. We have to constantly make sure he's getting a lot of water, fruits and veggies (squash!), and fiber. We're now adding flaxseed to his food. When things get real bad, it's a dose of Miralax, and if there's no results, it's an enema. Good luck!

How old is he? If he still uses a bottle or a cup put about a tbs of either karo syrup or just regular pancake/waffle syrup in with his milk or cereal each time he has it. My son had this problem and this is what the doctor told me to do and it has since worked wonders for him as well as my daughter and my friend's children.

My twins were born premature and we had real big problems with consitpation. We ended up on a prescription of Miralax. It was a powder that mixed into their bottles once a day. It worked miracles. You would of course have to get your dr on board with giving it to your baby. A consitpated baby is just as bad as a colicy baby! Good luck..

I don't know how old he is.. but my sister-in-law had that issue with her little girl and she had to start watering down some prune juice and giving it to her. I don't know how old she was when she started doing that though. I think maybe around 6 or 7 months.

Hope this helps

My doctor told me to do 1/2 a banana and 1/2 a pear every day along with a high fiber cereal like oatmeal. It helped my daughter!
