He started taking one fine before 1 year, but once I weaned him from daytime nursing & put him on whole milk he puts up such a fuss when I try to offer him a sippy cup but guzzles it down if I pour it into a bottle.

thanks all! he does seem to have a preference for the softer lids - maybe I'll just have to stick with them until he gets more used to the idea. I guess he might also do better when I wean him completely...

Let him pick out a new " big boy" cup.!! It worked great for my daughter. Also, I explained to her that she would only get water in her bottle and if she wanted juice or milk, she would have to use her sippy cup. After one bottle of water, she switched and never went back.

I agree with the other Moms. Don't break down and use a bottle. Consistency will make a huge difference so always use the sippy.Trust me if he gets thirsty he will use the cup, even the most stubborn babies will.

I just suffered through a couple of days of transition.  I just throw away the bottles and just let them work through it.  It is hard but it ends pretty quick, looking back it is not so bad.

I started my daughter on the "NUK"brand and I put a little strawberry syrup on the end of it and she loved it and never went back!!!!

I totally sound like a broken record but I'm serious, try giving him a straw cup. My daughter transitioned to that so much easier.

My daughter was like that for a little while but when she turned one I get breast feeding and we washed all of the bottles and put them away.  When she did not see the bottle anymore then she was ok with taking everything through a sippy cup.  Now that is all she gets weather it is for water, milk, or juice.  She seems to be ok with it because she can't see the bottle to remember that is what she use to use.

It takes a little getting used to the cup, and he's at an age to start asserting a little independance.  Be patient :)  I used character cups with my kids and started it out the first few days like it was special to be used at certain times. Before the week was out they wanted it all the time.. Good luck~

try different sippy cups like one with a silicone nipple or one with a hard top.  It all depend on what you little boy prefers.  My son only took silicone nipples for a while and then I switched him one day and he never went back!!!     Make sure he watches you pour his drink into the sippy cup!!!    Good Luck!!!
