I kept blinds open during the day to allow sun light into the house. I would use dim lighting at night. Plus never let baby sleep for more than 4 hours during the day when first born but allowed him to sleep nolonger at night. By 8 weeks my little one slept well during the night.

I kept it dark in my kids rooms when i would go in to feed them or change them if it was night but during the day i let all the light in and tried to keep them up for longer stints so they would sleep better at night

Try to let yourself relax, newborns have theirown schedule and the best thing we as new moms can do is encourage them to follow their natural patterns. Remember your not the one making the rules anymore..it'll get easier ;)... Try to keep feedings at night as quiet and unstimulating as possible also try: it can be hard to do, side lying feedings at night, but be careful!! you'll probably fall asleep too.... I found My first slept half way through every feeding and my newest two week old is at the point i have to wake him to feed at night now, but most nights he's up from 230 to 5 am and I just stay up and sing quiet lullabys till he goes back to sleep after feeding....Most importantly...skin to skin time...you'll regulate them into drowsiness in minutes if they've fed and are skin to skin at night.... Sorry to disagree but an overtired baby that has been woken up and " scheduled" does them very little good, Experts suggest you just follow baby's lead for the first months....trying to regulate to soon can really make them exceptionally grumpy...try to sleep when they do... ask for help from family and friends dso you can nap during the day and let the house go to hell...you'll catch up later!! Play when they want to and just follow baby's lead for a few weeks.....they will naturally sort themselves out as they learn the difference between night and day..Best of luck!!

Paula, my son had the same problem and during the day I would wake him periodically and keep him up. Though he was cranky at first...the pay-off was fewer interruptions throughout the night. I would only give him some formula once and the pacifier the rest of the time. He was a quick learner and it only took about a week and a half before I was getting more sleep throughout the night. Do not stimulate your newborn when they wake at night, this will teach them that they get attention when it is daytime not nighttime. Good luck. There are some wonderful ideas on here and I hope you are gaining more sleep every day.

from the beginning i put my daughter on a strict schedule especially at bedtime. our bedtime routine was different from the rest of the day and by 2 months from start to finish of getting her ready til she fell asleep was 10-15 minutes. same with naptime. now is the time to start her on a routine.

We where told by my sons doctor to make sure it is light during the day, even when they are asleep. So have the curtains all the way open. And to make sure it is close to dark of a night, soft lighting only. To also have music or the TV on during the day so they associate the sounds with day time. As it is often quite when everyone is asleep of a night.

hi i have two boys and wha i did when they were born was wake them up when i was going to sleep feed them and they sleep throught the night from a week old it really work

I found that routine from day one was great, with both of my kids, they slept through the night by 2 1/2 months. At about 7 pm they get a bath, bottle and cuddles. And then when they woke up through the night I didn't talk to them I would look into there eyes though change them fed them and burped them. And then they would get back into their crib and same with the next feeding. And during the day, make it noisy, the TV, radio, doing some lite house work, talk to them. And then go through the same schedule each night. My little girl is two and I am still using that schedule. And my little boy is 4 months, and he sleeps from 8 pm to 6 am. Hope it helps!

When my boys were little, my older one had a tougher time falling asleep longer. He was up every 30 minutes for at least 3 months. He gradually eased in with longer feedings at nights. My youngest son liked sleeping in from day 1. So, we had to take turns waking him up every 3 hours changing and feeding so he can get used to time change, and the older he got, the longer his feedings got, the better he slept at nights. We let them take a short nap in mid-morning, so they're not cranky by the afternoon they want to sleep by 5 and stay awake all night. Usually, their mid-morning naps carry them all the way till 7pm when they're usually tucked into bed and asleep by 7:30 pm.

When they do wake at night keep lights out as much as posiable no tv or music and keep talking to a minimum so they inderstand this is quiet time. Daytime napping don't woory so much about keeping it so quiet do your normal activiteis such as vaccuum etc. It just takes time, but it will happen.

wake to feed during the day... when my son was mixed up and his days were nights i would wake him every 3 hrs to feed (on his own he would wake up every 4 hrs) i dont remember exactly but i think it only took a day or two before he was out of nocturnal mode...

Im an LC and find that babies sleep better at night if they have more feeds during the day. I believe they wake at night because they are hungry. This measure seems to work with my clients. New babies need at least seven feeds in 24 hours So squeeze in 6 of them into the day time Good luck

this worked for me and i had a preemie who spent 2 months in constantly lit NICU. When she got up at night to eat, we kept it almost business like. No interaction. just a diaper change and bottle in the dark. Then during the day when she would nap, we would make sure her room had a fair amount of sunlight in. That, coupled w/ a strict bedtime routine did the trick.

At night, when your baby wakes up for feedings, try to keep the lights as low as possible so that he/she can tell that its still dark and its still nighttime. Alos, try to make night time feedings as boring as possible. You know, feed, change, burp, and back to bed. Alos, make sure that you are not rocking him/her to sleep all the way. They need to learn how to self soothe and go to sleep on their own. So always try to put your baby to bed drowsy, not sleeping. He/she may cry a little, but as long as she's fed and changed, he/she will go to sleep very soon!

For my first on e- I slept when she did and she figured it out by 8 mnths. Second one, I made her get up earlier in the morning and never let her nap for more than an hour during the days - by 2 1/2 months, she was sleeping from midnight to 5 or 6 am. I might not work, but it's worth a try.
