Any tips on how to help the baby while teething?

My son is 5 mos old and I am pretty sure he is teething. He is cranky, drooling and always is putting his hands in his mouth. What can I do to help sooth him. I don't think it is a good idea to give him baby tylenol everyday?

My husband found Camilia homeopathic teething vials at Walmart. They are a bit expensive, but saved hours of crying and I didnt have to give my son Tylenol unless it was totally necessary. It also saved us from having to give oragel, I didnt want to numb his gag reflexes.

I've been using baby oragel on my daughter. Luckily we've only had 2 or 3 days of real fussiness with the first tooth that is still working its way out. I'm sure there is more to come. Grandma told me about the dissolving tablets a couple of days ago but I haven't tried them yet. She loves her teething ring cold straight from the fridge. I was eating one of those popsicles that you get in the box unfrozen that's just juice and freeze them yourself. She kept grabbing it so I set one out until it was slushy and gave it to her, she loved it. I'll have to try the wet frozen cloth, she is always munching on her burp cloths or her hands.

I put a piece of iced in a wash cloth and then tied it off with a rubberband very securely. Then let my son chew on this until the ice melted. He loved it and it kept him occupied for awhile. I also had another mom use green onions. I know that sounds weird but it truly worked.

Both my boys hate/d teething toys...so I would wet a facecloth and throw it in the freezer for a few minutes. Long enough to get it good and cold, not frozen. They love chewing on them.

Quoting Kristen:

Try Hyland's teething tablets. They're tiny and dissolve in baby's mouth. My little guy got to the point where he'd see me open the bottle and he'd open his mouth for me, so they must help! I also alternated Tylenol and Motrin if he seemed like he was in terrible discomfort, but you're right- don't overdo it. Usually just before bedtime was when he needed it most. You can try teething rings that are chilled or a washcloth dipped in water, then rung out and frozen. Also maybe give him one of those mesh self feeders and fill it with frozen banana chunks. My son loved that. He's 7 1/2 months old now and has 6 teeth...we're both in one piece still. :-) Hope this helps!

I used those mesh feeders as well I would put greapes in there (it was cold sweet and she could not choke on them.

I give and gave my daughter a cool cloth, being she would put everything she would put that in her mouth and the coolness soothes the gums. I hope that helps
