I'm a first time Mommy and I'm do not live anywhere near home. Since I've had my son, I just want to pack up the family and move. Has anyone else gone through this? How do I work through it?

I have. My family is in Ohio and DH DD and I are in Australia. You just have to find a good routine to get into, keep yourself and baby happy and busy. Also socialize! Join baby time at the library, play groups, mom groups to get you both socializing and connecting with others. Also very important maintain the relationships with your family even thought they are long distance. make it a point to call, send emails, post letters whatever and do this regularly. keep up with what is going on with them and include them in what is going on in your daily lives and your baby's milestones.

For me when I really feel the homesickness I will cook my brother's favorite dish, email a joke to my dad or write a letter to my mom and let the baby scribble on it or put her foot or hand print on the back of it. I know it's not the same as being there and seeing them or inviting them over for dinner but it does help.

No you are not alone there are others out here who are also homesick ;)

Thank you Everyone/ I moved to Georgia 6.5 years ago because, well it's where the Army stationed me. When I got out of the Army I wasn't a Mommy, and I had a good job, so I stayed. When I would get homesick I could make plans to go visit. Now, with the economy the way it is, I lost my job right after I found out I was pregnant. So now money is tight and I don't get to visit anywhere near as much as I would like. My parents finally got to meet their Grandson in October. Their health won't allow them to travel down here.

You all have given great advice. I'm so happy that I have joined CoM!

Thanks again!

My solution was that after two years that our son was born we decided to go live closer to my parents. So we moved from the Netherlands to Curacao. Calling them wasn't enough for me. And i am glad we moved

I am a first-time mom living 7+ hrs from both my family and my husband's family. Just like you, when my daughter was born I wanted to pack up the house and go!! There are still days that I want to do that :) What really helped me to work through it was making some goods friends. Look into your local community center or family wellness center. Mommy & Me classes are a great way to meet other moms in your area. You can also see if your hospital offers any sort of new parent support groups, etc. I have been lucky enough to find a few good friends that make living so far from family a little easier. While I still like getting "home" whenever possible, it feels good to have a life and things that I enjoy right here. Best of luck!!

how much did you want to move away in the first place?? constant phone calls regular visits (if possible) find out what stuff there is to do around your new area get involved with mummy commities see if there is a mum and tots group near you if not start one at your local comunity centre just keep yourself as busy as possible if you are still unhappy weigh up your pro's and con's of living so far away from home and if there is no extremely important reason to stay go home and be with your family at least you can say you have experienced the travel and you can try again when you are more comfortable with moving away again be happy for your sons sake he will pick up on you're emotions at some point and it may cause unexpected problems in the future (i dont mean anything serious just like restlessness at night and such) hope this helps and you feel better soon :)

I don't think I can help but I can understand. I am originally from Montreal Canada and now live in Utah. When you experience births or other big events, it is normal to miss home because you probably would like to share your new joy (baby) with your family. The phone has helped me a lot back then. Now both my parents have passed away 2 years ago and I don't have many people left who really care about what's going on in my life. It's hard sometimes but you kinda get used to it. Good luck to you and be happy!

I have! I'm a first time mom too and when mt son was almost 2 months old we moved out of FL (where I had lived my entire life and all of my family was) to MN where my SO's family was. We've been here for about 8 months now but I still miss my family and home. The only thing that really makes me feel better is CONSTANT phone calls and setting dates to visit. It give me something to work towards. My son and I are going in April. Its going to be over a year since any of my family has seen either of us. Something else I'm going to do is get a web cam so the I can video chat with different family members and they can also see Ethan. I hope that helps. youre not alone. It is hard but it does get better.
