Everyone is making summer plans and I just want to do nothing, but I feel guilty, that I'm not planning all these summer activities but I work full time and cant really afford it, anyone else feeling like this?

i agree on the idea of doing something out of the house once a week; its a good idea for family time. i have a friend who lives behind me; she has 4 kids when they go to the movies its the dollar show {one of the few rare ones that are left} but its still nice for the whole family. my daughter being a only child; i do have it seems quite a few sleepovers at my home in the summer; nothing i hate more than those days she peeks outside & says "theres no one to play with";so i tend to try to make up for her being an only child in other ways ;even though we cant always afford it.but ;a pool; or sidewalk chalk and bike rides make for a fun summer for most kids if they"ve got someone to share that with!:)

i know what you mean. my family & i just got back from a short 4-day trip to clearwater; florida. we spent money there we didnt even have. i knew it would pretty much be our "treat" for the summer; my daughter loves flying just like me; shes 8- but i will really be concentrating on getting INTO an airlines; kinda always been my life long wish. im just really looking forward to no alarm clocks going off in the morning; and taking it easy.so yes; i see where your coming from; pretty much:)

I understand that feeling. I would encourage you in 2 ways'
1. If you can't afford to do a summer activity, Don't! You are not being a bad mom. In fact, I believe you are modeling a right behavior for your kids. We live in an era where many people live in debt . . . and they carry a heavvy burden. It's important to teach our kids by example to live within their means.
2. I don't know how old your kids are but I would encourage you to plan maybe 1 thing a week out of the house It doesn't have to cost money . . . maybe picnic in the park, feeding the ducks on a lake, going to a fun playground, going out for a hot chocolate (by walking) . . . . Our kids just want to spend time with us. Yes, they would love to go to Disneyland but more than that they want our time, attention and love. That gives them security. I know what it is like to be tired and not wnat to do anything, but pick a day of the week and make it fun In our family, we have movie night every Friday night. We take turns picking movies (usually out of our collection), II make popcorn or easy cheap chocolate covered strawberries and tea. We sit and watch and laugh and eat. My kids are 9, 8, 5, and almost 3 and all of them love it and remind me everey week.
I hope this helps. I just want you to know you are not alone in your feelings or hampered by finances. You are still a great mom.
