I had my tubes tied after my 3rd child. I had a c-section so it was not an extra surgery. I am glad I did it. I have no regrets.

I had my tubes tied when I was 23. It was the best thing I ever did. I have two children. They asked me if I wanted it done and I was all over it. I have been separated from their father for almost two years now and have fallen head over heels for the man I can see myself with for the rest of my life. Every now and then I get this small feeling like I would like to experience having another child but nothing so strong that it would make me want to got through being pregnant and worrying bout running out of diapers. I think you have to be really sure. But even when you think you're really sure at the time. You could feel completely different in 10 years. And yes, they will try and talk you out of it.

I HAD MY TUBES TIED AFTER MY LAST BABY 7 1/2 YEARS AGO! SINCE THEN I'VE GAINED 100 + LBS. ANDDON'T HAVE A SEX DRIVE HARDLY AT ALL ANY MORE. COULD THIS BE WHY? I ONCE ASKED A DOCTOR IF PEOPLE WERE LIKE DOGS AND CATS, YOU KNOW HOW WHEN YOU GET THEM SPAYED OR NEUTERED THEY GET REALLY FAT, I THINK IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT. CAUSE LOTS OF WOMEN I KNOW SAY THEY GAINED WEIGHT WHEN THEY HAD THIS DONE. COINSIDENCE?! OR NOT?!

had my tubes tied sonce i was 24 and i just had my 4th daughter they made me wait for 2mnths but i was fine and i did not gainany weight or loose my sex drive I think it is different for everyone ! you have to talk to your spouse and together come up with something that the both of you can live with ! yes it is ultimately yout descion it is your body but you don't want to leave your husband out of the loop either !i wanted 6 children befor getting ths done but now i am at peace with the fact that my youngest is graduating this coming school yr. and we are getting ready for our 1rst grandbaby come november our girls are 23,21,20, and 18 and i am proud of each one of them for how close they are and how far they have come in life> our oldest graduated form college back in may of 08 , the three oldest live on their own and are living healthy and happy lives and our youngest is working this summer and will be going to college soon after that so i regret nothing ! live your life happy with no regrets and you will benefit the rewards tooo!

You are only 23 so they will ask for you to wait (My friend norah tried this after her 2nd child). They want to try to push you to wait till about 25 they will say stuff about how you will change your mind and there is the birth control that lasts 5 years. I have no idea about when they do it. She can't have natural birth (C-section only for her). I know they can do it then. I only have one so I didn't eveen think about it let alone I was only 20 at the time (now 21) so I didn't want to hear the speech and also I thought I might want another (so far not looking good my husband wants another but I don't... right now. I think when Angelas goes to school I will want another). My suggestion is to wait a little and get that 5 year birth control. Maybe have your husband done (if your married), it is safer and easier to reverse for men. It is hard to reverse for women and takes far longer to recover. I know a few women who are so happy they did it and a few that cry when they see a baby because they want a new one but they either can't afford reverse or they missed the 5 year mark to get it reversed. It is all up to you though. If you think you have enough and seriously thought about it I say if you think it is for you good luck :). I hope you the best.

I had mine done when I had my last baby, when I was 36, I am 44 now, and 4 children later and the last 2 were only 11 months apart. I knew I had to be done having children of my own but now we are a family of 8 children and my last one is 22months and a joy of my life. Sometimes I think it is easier just to have my own and why did I do it I just remember when they called me about my last one, he was 3 days and they told me to come and pick him up tomarrow hey could not beat 24 hr pregnancy and 4.5 hr labor (that is how long it took to drive to pick him up) and I think pregnancy not any more.

yes, i had mine tied after my second child was born.  I was 30 when they were tied, and one doctor tried to talk me out of it.  i am glad i got it done, however the cramps are a lot worse and i find that my cycle is not as regular as what it used to be.  i had mine done in canada, so it didnt cost me anything.  I had a c-section when my daughter was born, and they did the tubal ligation at the same time.  if this is something you truly want to do, then fight to make sure it gets done and if your doctor doesnt respect your wishes, find one that does.

They will try and talk you out of it -due to your age .... I would make sure you are 100 % sure , you never know what life has in store for you .. Alot of things change , you just never know .I almost did it after my 5th child and i called the doctor the night before and canceled , boy am i glad i did -i can't even imagine my life without my youngest...

But one thing i found out is some people really only want one sometimes and never change their mind but also i have seen alot of people that have and they regretted it alot. They get re-married or for whatever reason and they are regretting it so bad and then it's to late .

But if you use some other birth control until you get older you will have a choice later in life...because "You never know what can happen ...........

Good luck , Laura

How many kids do you have? Do you have any medical conditions that are a danger? I know my cousin was that age and the Dr told her she would have to wait and have at least 1 more before they would do it because of her age. I had mine done after my 3rd child , had to wait 3wks before they did it.

I am the mother of 4 and at times still question having my tubes tied, only my first pregnancy was a smooth one, the rest were not easy. I had my tubes tied because I could not handle having another child, I was 31 at the time, I'm 35 now ans still get the urge to have another baby, then I am thankful that I had it done. I think that most doctors will not to a tubal due to your age, but I would seriously think about it and discuss all options with your spouse and your doctor, before making a final decision. My tubal was difficult I had a lot of scar tissue from an eptopic pregnancy, they did it within the 24 hour window after my last was born vaginally, it was expensive but insurance helped out. This is a very, very important decision to make and it is yours alone to make, think it out and listen to your heart, it will lead you in the right direction.

i had mine done after my 3rd.i had a vaginal delivery but they made me wait 3 months after. the dr said that was the best way to make sure everything was "back to normal" and not swollen. i know my cousin was 22 and had problematic pregnancies and they still wanted her to wait untill she was 25 to do it.

I had my tubes lasered after my last child while during a C-section. This was 20 years ago mind you, but they normally look at your age before they will agree to do it and it will be a separate surgery. Hope it helps/

I got my tube tied when I had my last child....I have three kids and don't want any more. The doctor also tried to talk me out of it...Cuz I was only 23 years old...I told em that this is my body and I had enough....I had to wait three months before I got my tube tied..You do what body feel. Normally they will tied your tube after you have the baby....Don't let the doctor talk you into anything. You make the decision.....

I was 33 when my second child was born, i wasnt in a postion to have anymore financially or relationship wise. They go through a list of about 20 different things that can go wrong and such, its all black box warning stuff. You are a bit young for that particular proceedure. They want you to have atleast 3 kids and be over 25. When you have it done after a normal delivery you wait about and hour. I did anyway. They will try and talk you out of it. I swear the nurses and doctors asked about 20 different times. Its a big discision and there are alot of other options.

yes, I had my tubes tied after my 5th child. I was 25 years old.  I had been asking for this after having my second child. They kept saying I was too young.  So, while I was pregnant with the 5th I told the doctor I wanted to have my tubes tied and to give me the forms to fill out.  I did and when I delivered my 5th I immediately asked in the delivery room OKAY, WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO DO THE TUBAL.  This had been planned months ahead of time, every nurse in the hospital tried to talk me out of it, the doctor did too, he even called in 5 more doctors and came in at 12:00 am and they threw every scernario at me they could. I told them that I just had my 5th, 3 were preemies and to leave me alone and that I best be in the OR that day having it done. They did it and I dont regret it one bit.  I did not even consult my husband, he knew nothing about it until he came to visit me and I was in the recovery room. My body, my decision.  It is ultimately your decision.  If you feel strongly about this, do it.  It seems you are not or you would not be asking for advice or opinions, so you just might want to wait.  Do what is right for you. Birth control was not an option for me, health wise, developed a blood clot, heavy bleeding with the IUD, one kidney shut down.  So consider your health and if you really dont want anymore children.

Being that you are 23 i would wait but that is me. I recently had my tubes tied after my last baby a girl. I said 4 was enough for me. But in a way I regret doing this. It does change your body. There are so many other options besides tieing your tubes these days. I would look into other options first.

I had a tubal ligation at the age of 27 and my daughter was 8. I only have 1 child but I was sure that I did not want anymore children. My physician did not question me too much, she just wanted to make sure that I was sure. Once I signed the consent I had to wait 1 month before the procedure took place. I did remarry and I cannot say that I regret my decision. My insurance covered the procedure so I didn't have any out of pocket expense.

Hi, I'm Paula, I'm 42yrsold now. I had my last baby in 2004, I have 3 boys & 1 girl. My 1st 2kids were born vaginal and my last 2 were born C-Section. With my last 2 babies i had Gestation Diabetes while i was carrying them before they were born, and even had to give myself shots in the stomach with my last baby, but with you being only 23yrsold i doubt that the doctors will tie your tubes cause you are still very young. Unless you have a got a medical situation to where they think that you don't need to have anymore kids, but things might be different where you are idk. I just wanted to comment on your question, hope I have been helpful

How many children do you have? Were the pregnancy/ births really complicated? Are you feeling overwhelmed right now? How does your husband feel? There are so many issues to be discussed and resolved before you finally decide. You are so young to make a decision that will be difficult, if not impossible, to reverse.

I have a 4 year old and a 15 month old. My doctor said she would do the procedure but I had to wait 6 weeks after the birth but she recommended waiting at least 6 months after the birth, just to make sure of my decision. I haven't had the procedure yet, just haven't had the time but I am on the birth control mirena and I love it. I figure in 4 years when I need it replaced, I will get my tubes tied then. Good luck and think about your options!

The truth of the matter is, you have to think on it a lot, and decide what is best for you. Be sure that you do not want more natural children, as it is very expensive to undo, if possible at all.

I had mine done when I was 25. Age was actually the deciding factor for me. I had made the personal decision, and discussed it with my husband. I felt that it would be irresponsible of me to have children past a certain age, because I wanted to be able to see and enjoy as much of their lives as possible. I decided that I would stop at 25, so there was a better chance of me being around to see all my children get married and graduate college, not to mention I would have the energy to play with them and enjoy their youth, and that of their children. I did become a little hesitant about this decision when, shortly before my 25th birthday, we still only had one child, despite attempts for number 2. Fortunately, a month after my 25th birthday, I discovered that I was expecting, and everything went smoothly. 2 weeks after my son was born, I had the tubal.

I would like to think that I will be with my husband for forever and have reflected on what I would feel if something happened to him or to one of my children. But then I remember why I made the decision in the first place, and I still believe that I did the right thing. There are plenty of children out there that have no family, and if at some point we decide that we want to welcome more into our lives, we can adopt.

I was told that I couldn't have another baby after my now 6 year old son. Guess what??? My daughter will be 4 in Sept. I have a lot of complications with my pregnancies. 1 ended at 24 weeks, my son was born at 33 weeks (he was almost 8 lbs and healthy) by daughter at 36 weeks. And I was 38, so having my tubes tied wasn't an issue. They did it when they did the C-section.

The funny thing is that a year later I was getting the Nova-Sure procedure to stop my periods. They have always been REALLY bad. My Gyn asked me if I wanted to go home and discuss this with my husband. LMAO. Kids weren't an issue (can't have them after the procedure) so the fact that they questioned whether my husband would be okay with it made me laugh. No more 'go get me Tampax NOW', no more migraines, no more hot flashes, no more dealing with how bitchy I got because I was miserable, um, yeah, I'm sure he would have thought twice about it....... I still laugh when I think about it. BTW- the procedure made my life a lot better

[deleted account]

In my case, 32 years ago, it was the next day. No problems and life was good. Our insurance in Hawaii payed for most of the surgery. At 23, they might try to talk you out of the surgery.

I had my tubes tied back in 1983 after the birth of my third and last child, and I was 23 yrs old! Since I had all three of my children by C-section, it was easy for them to do so while they had me open. I have never regretted my decision and felt very fortunate that it was an easy decision for me to make. Our insurance company also flipped the bill! Hope this helps you!

My sis in law has 4 kids and at about 28 got her tubes tied and really wanted it (before she met my brother in law)... Now she is going to have the reversale done!!! I would make sure you really really want it before you have it done. I have known lots of ppl who have had it done and only about 2 who didn't like the outcomes (wanted more children or had medical issues) My mom had some uncommon (very uncommon) medical problems and I will not get one done because of that (lol make the man have it done). If you really want it do it and don't let anyone tell you diffrent!!!

I am 25 years old and had my third and last one when I was 23. They did the procedure the day after I gave birth (natural), and I went home the ame day it was done. They asked me a million times if I wanted it done, and I was very sure so of course it was a no brainer for me. But if you think you may want kids down the road, I would think very hard about it.

Hi Jessica, I had my tubes tied when I was 22, during the delivery of my daughter. I had a c-section, so it was a no-brainer. My daughter is now 16 1/2 yrs old and I regret every minute of my hasty decision. At the time, I was in a very rocky marriage with my children's father. We divorced shortly after my daughter turned 2.

I haven't been in a serious relationship since my divorce because I felt that I couldn't provide a family for someone who wanted children....so I just stayed friends. If things got too serious, I would back out of the friendship.

It wasn't until I was about 30, when I really wanted another child. Mind you, I was still unmarried, but I so badly wanted to have another child. Then at 37, my daughter made me a "Nana" and I'm tickled "pink" over my granddaughter, Kinsley. Yes, she's young, she made a mistake, she knows that. I now have my "daughter" that I couldn't have. God saw to it that the circle of life was fulfilled, even if I did think it was a tragic situation.

I don't know your situation, but I would highly recommend not having your tubes tied. Why can't your husband have a vasectomy? Have you thought of it that way?

I was 28 when i had mine done, and believe me they tried everything they could to talk me out of it. I had my last child in August 2000 and my tubes tied that December. Was the best decision i ever made but each person is different and you have to be 100% sure its what you want. 23 is very young and it is highly unlikely they will do it for you.

I just had my second daughter a week ago. I'm 37 and we don't want any more. I had a vaginal delivery shortly after 7:00 pm and they did the surgery the next morning at 8:00 am. I had consulted the OB about it 4-5 months earlier, they just had me sign a form that I understood what I was doing and what it meant. When the L&D nurse sent me down for surgery she asked me where I was going and what it meant. I said "no more babies" and she said "good, that's what we like to hear". I think due to my age they were ok with doing it, if I'd been younger I don't know if they would have or not. I have a very small incision (about an inch) right below my belly button and I have little to no pain 9 days later.

Hello, I am 37 years old and I've had mine tied for 5 1/2 years now I'm in my second marrige (2years) and I have 5 sons prior to my second marriage I wouldn't change it for the world, but now my husband wants another and that's out of the question for me everyone is in school and I have two that will graduate in 2 to 3 years. I haven't had any problems, but as the others have stated make sure that that's what u want and if you're not married that when u do decide to get married that it want be a conflict of interest between you and your husband. Be Blessed!
