Anyone have a child with a heart murmur?

I don't have a child with one, but I have one. I found out when I was about 13 years old. I am now 31. I don't recall ever being told what grade mine was. It hasn't kept me from everyday life. The only thing I have had to do is carry a card with me and if I have dental procedures, surgery or when I had my daughter they had to give me antibiotics.

Hello,
My grandaughter was born with a grade 4 heart murmmer. She had a small hole in her heart, it took ten years for it to heal all the way. She is now 13 and totally healthy.

My daughter has an innocent murmur were it wont cause her any problems or stop her from doing what she wants sports etc.The only detected it at 4years of age when i took her to the hospital with a fever that would not go down with meds only to find she had tonsillitis and it was making her heart beat faster and putting pressure on her so the fever wouldnt go down.

My son who is now 3.5 has just recently outgrown his and my 3 month old daughter has had one that was heard at her 1 week check up and has been heard since. I have no idea what grade either were nor did I know that they gave them grades. My daughter had to go to the cardiologist last week and went threw all the tests just to make sure because it is very prominent. The dr told me not to worry and to tell anyone else that hears it that it has been checked out and is not a reason for concern. Mostly I would not freak out about them from what the drs have told me most outgrow them by toddlerhood and at the latest by the time they are a teen.

My daughter developed one a two weeks old when she was in the hospital with RSV. It was caused by her lungs struggling which caused her heart to work harder. It goes worse at first, but then better. It eventually went away. Since I'm not sure what is causing your son's not sure what possibility would be for him. I think they can all really vary, depening on the grade and the cause. I was really worried when I first heard she had a murmur, but the dr wasn't concerned at all and it did go away. Good luck!

Natalie, my brother was born with a heart murmer, but he outgrew it. I have no idea what grade, I don't think they even graded them back then (we are talking 40 years ago, LOL). But I just thought I'd let you know that by the time he hit puberty, he didn't have it any more.

Hi there i don't have a child with a hear murmur but i have one myself ive never been told what grade mine is though i didn't know there were grades some people are born with them others are developed when i was one i fell into a pool and drown i was in a comer for a while and my mother tried to do cpr she didn't know you only use two fingers when working on a baby and used her whole palm and thats how mine came about its not much of a big deal he will still be able to play sports and do everything every child can do just make sure when he goes to the dentist or for any other surgery they know we have to take antibiotics to kill any germs so that infections don't start which can have an effect on the heart, but i would take him to see a specialist and get a scan if you haven't already they may find he doesn't have one it could be that he has a floppy valve things like that are often mistaken for murmurs. i hope this helped you out a little or alot :)
