Sorry to ask, but since my youngest is 2.5... I'm all out of baby food jars. ;)

Does it say anywhere on a jar of baby food that you can put it in a bottle? I was just told this (by a woman who makes her own baby food actually) on another forum and I just want to check on the validity of her claim. Thanks.

i read the original post and as soon as she said that, i went and checked my jars...neither gerber, nor earth's best say anything about it being okay to put in a baby's bottle...if they did, that would be a lawsuit waiting to happen.

It depends. Not a typical bottle, no. But there are feeders intended for baby foods. http://www.amazon.com/Nuby-Infant-Feeder... They look very much like a bottle. I wouldn't recommend them because it circumvents the reflex that keeps a young infant safe (tongue thrust) and allows them to be fed baby foods too young, for the general public. But for babies with severe reflux and which require thickened fluids, or older infants old enough for foods but with a motor control problem that prevents spoon feeding, this would be fully appropriate.

NO!!!!!!! Definitely not in Australia at least . . . . and the general advice here is to NEVER but anything but formula or breast milk in a bottle, everything else (juice, water, cows milk) goes in a sippy cup - from six months since they recommend strictly formula/breast milk before then.

Baby food in a bottle - which apparently is an old fashion trick from some Mediterranean countries, is highly frowned upon now because it does not get baby to exercise their mouth and throat muscles leading to chewing and speech problems. It is also a fantastic way to overfeed your baby, because they just gulp down they don't chew and don't get as tired/bored with eating, so it is a great way to end up with an obese bub . . .

This is what I have read and been told by early child care nurses anyway. Logically, it makes sense to me!
