Anyone have any idea about rashes?

My first instinct would be a reaction to soaps of some kind. Or possibly a milk allergy. Did the doctor give you any guidance on what it could be? What you would want to do is cut out her milk for a couple weeks (all dairy), see if it goes away. If it does, you have your answer. If not, then go back to the milk products and switch your laundry detergent. See if that makes a difference. Also, get a mild cream to put on her body to help ease the itchiness. We like Aveeno for my son's eczema. If the laundry soap doesn't work, then maybe do a food journal and start cutting foods out 1 by 1 for a couple weeks each to isolate what the problem could be. My 3 yr old has seen a dermatologist a few times and had a few rashes properly diagnoised and treated. My husband and i also have had seasonaly allerigies, but have never been to a specialist. But when my little one started getting allergies i took her right away to an Allergist. The Dr is geat and she has been super helpful and has given me so many useful tips and has access to so many resources, plus when my daughter has a reaction to something our Dr has a medical history on her and it seems to be much easier to treat the allergy correctly and is able to speed up that recovery time. If a rash isn't fully cured it just keeps coming back, and just because you don't see it for awhile, dosen't mean that it's really gone, some treatment last much longer than noticible symptoms. good luck!

Well you've covered my #1 suggestion 50 times so I am pulling out maws bag of tricks. In a very organized manner eliminate (change) soaps, bleaches, all things with fragrances, I would try oatmeal baths and baking soda for powder, change her twice as often, luke warm baths two or three times per day. I am allergic to itch mites, everone else is oblivious to them but I at age 52 still scratch myself raw. Make sure she is wiped well with water after going to the restroom even peeing. I have found some relief wiith Lubriderm and have zero itch relief from Benadryl. The Oatmeal really seemed to help a family member with Psoriassis. Double rinsing the childs clothing and bedding and leaving out the fabric softner may help too.

Have you tried using sensitive diapers and wipes? I have to use all hypoallergenic products because my kids have really sensitive skin so Ive been through it. Good luck

I have given this advice to more than a few mothers, but since there is a perceived stigma attached to my response, few have heeded my advice. When my daughter was very small she was diagnosed with exema. Doctor said to use expensive cream etc. Nothing helped much. I tried an antifungal cream and it cleared up in days. The rash from heat, allergies or any other irritation can quickly develop a secondary fungal aspect that many doctors don't consider. So even though there original rash is treated and heals, you are left with a yeast like fungal rash. Give it a try, then tell all your friends how simple it was. Lol

Don't. Worry my daughter had this once she born and it stay with her till 3 or 4 years then it end I keep putting cream over all her body every night to calm her down and she can able to sleep but honestly it was all useless it cal
S down for a while then it return back. And now my daughter is 13 years and all this gone away. So it is by time

I agree with the salt as Deborah suggested. I noticed that my sons eczma would clear up for a few weeks every time I took him to the beach. Now i just add sea salt to his bath and it works great. Another thing that also worked well was fish oil.

My neice was allergic to the plastic and padding in diapers...My sister had to switch to all cotton reusable diapers....I know it is a pain to wash diapers, but my neice's comfort and health was well worth it...

I could probably answer most of your questions because I have been in your postion with 2 out of 3 of my children. My oldest had really dry skin, red patches everywhere especially behind her knees and elbows. She would scratch so much that I had to put gloves on her hands and I was so upset because I didnt know what to do. I swore she was going to scar her skin with the way she looked. My son had really bad problems too with his skin. There were some spots on him that would even bleed. I took my kids to a pediatrician and they would try cream after cream on them and nothing worked. Most creams would make them cry. I then tried a dermatologists that gave me samples of lotion and told me to use a certain type of laundry soap, and that didnt work either. I didnt know what to do. My aunt then introduced me to a green company that sells products that contain no chemicals, chlorine bleach, formaldahyde, or anything in them. I switched out the store brands and switched directly to them and my children have changed for the better, it was amazing. Their lotion changed my kids skin and for the first time they didnt scratch and were not red. They looked like normal kids. I would love to help your kids by giving you this same information. Does she wear disposable diapers? That is what my son wore and he was so allergic that his bottom was bloody and raw until I quit using them and bought cloth diapers. Yes, they are a hassle but it's worth it to keep your child more comfortable. I have skin allergies myself so I know what the itchy rash is like. Miserable. Try cloth for a while. Be sure to rinse them well. I also let my little guy go without a diaper so the air could get to his bottom and help dry up the rash.

my 2 year old, became allergic to diapers at about 9 months. we had to switch to the organic chlorine free kind. she is much better, but still sensitive and itchy. we just need to get her potty trained. go for fragrance free, hypo allergenic everything, detergents, soaps and lotions. aloe vera seems to help sooth the skin, but make sure if you don't use the actual plant that the gel does not have any alcohol or dye. good luck!

Eucerin and Aquaphor work great for the rash, helps the itchiness. My son had excema from the time he was born until this past summer when we found out he was allergic to nuts. watch for difficulty with swallowing or rash after certain foods. The reaction will most likely get worse every time they have the food, if it is a food allergy. Most allergists do not like to do allergy testing until children are 4 years old, we ran into this problem. Keep track of everything your daughter has before the rash flared up (I know it's difficult and time consuming, but can help you find what is causing the rash). Good Luck!!

My daughter is 26 and still gets rashes over seemingly minor things - she has had a variety of treatments - lotions and potions - some herbal and some from the doctor. Recently she got canker sores in her mouth when I changed toothpaste! She uses unscented detergent, unscented bodywash, wears long sleeves and long pants (even in the summer) when she is working outside in the vineyard. She cannot eat too much at any one sitting and needs to make sure she gets enough sleep, etc. She is just extremely sensitive and always has been. It was always a challenge to make sure she felt well. As she got older, she accepted the challenges and now manages it all herself.

My daughter would get a really bad rash when we used baby wipes so I would rinse them out really good with water before we used them. Also, Pampers brand diapers and Pull Ups would give her a bad rash too.

My first thought was a food allergy.If your child also seems to have a lot of mucus build up along with the skin rash, I would look at diary products first. They can cause inflammation in some children. It can't hurt to eliminate all dairy from their diet for at least 5 days and see if the rash starts to decrease.

Make her wear cotton and other good soft materials.It might as well be heat rush so make sure she has a fresh room and change her beddings everyday.As some mums have said check the products you're using.i believe she'll gets better.

Yes, start with using a sensitive skin laundry detergent like dreft. Also the only soap my daughter could use was Johnson n johnson sensitive skin wash. then i had to put eucerin on all red parts everyday morning and night. Hopefully this will help. It does get better as they get older. My daughter is 10 now and only has a few problems a year now.

oh, one more thing. sometimes, my doc had ended up prescribing an antibiotic for my DD. she said it was a viral rash and the only way to clear it up was from antibiotics. it works. but she wouldnt prescribe it every time. only when it got really bad. AND, dont pick at the rash. that will make it worse. have you tried aquaphor? love that stuff!!!

take a few guesses at what she's eating, take them out of her diet for a few days to a week and see if the rash clears up. then re-introduce one item at a time for a few days and see if the rash comes back. for starters, any dairy (esp. cow's milk), acidic fruit such as oranges and apples and juice.

my DD has always had very sensitive skin. she always has rashes on her diaper area since she was an infant. she would break out from something i would eat through the breastmilk all the way down to the diapers and wipes i used. i could only use a specific brand for sensitive wipes and only a couple brands of diapers. my poor DD would break out over just about anything. she's 4 years old now and she can have oranges and apples, but only one serving a day for a few days and then she has to take a break from them for a day or two. she can only have 1 juice a day, diluted and take a break for a day here and there. she still breaks out but it's a lot more manageable. also, consider the soap you're using during baths. believe it or not, children's bath soap could be a culprit. try an antibacterial bar soap in just her diaper area and glycerin bar soap as well. anything with fragrance can trigger rashes as well. good heavens, i feel like a doctor talking about this b/c we, too have been to the doc 50 times regarding rashes. this is what i learned (and what has worked for us) and it's all about trial and error. good luck!

Did the dermatologist run tests for the allergies? If not, why not? If you didn't take her to a dermatologist, but just a regular pediatrician....get thee to a dermatologist!!!! They will run tests to determine the cause of the allergic reaction.

I think definitely allergist. Try 1/8 of a cup of clorax to her bath water helps great with eczema and sounds like what she is dealing with.

Find out what she's allergic to and get that out of her life. You can try changing you laundry soap, changing her soap, changing her lotion, changing her diet...
All the creams in the world are not going to make her better if she keeps coming in contact with what is causing the rash.

My 2nd son has horrible eczema rashes. My pedi said it was just bad eczema. Come to find out he is allergic to cows milk & eggs. He would even break out in bath water since I was breastfeeding & often ate eggs & cows milk, his poor little body was putting out so much histamine it was just fighting everything. I had him allergy tested @ 6 months. But I had figured out on my own it was related to cows milk by elimination diet, but w/out the allergy test I would have never figured out the eggs. Eucerine lotion helps a lot, they also make a baby soap. I would suggest using clear & free laundry soap & NO dryer sheets. Some kids are just sensitive. My oldest has no allergies & could bath in dish soap & it wouldn't effect him. But my youngest is just very sensitive. Good luck. Try & keep her from scratching as she can cause an infection. Keep her skin moist with lotion & don't use ANY perfumed soaps.

My sons have bad eczema, it's ready and itchy... i have went to doctor's they prescribed cream for them and it does not work.. i went to a natural path and she suggested to use tea tree soap and tea tree oil ... the soap it's self works wonders... now the boys get compliment on having nice soft skin... and the tea tress oil you can apply directly on the skin..

I would recommend that you check your babies blood type. Has she been on any antibiotics. It could be yeast causing the break out. Also, check on the Eating for your Blood type diet if she is already experiencing allergies. I am a 54 year old mom of 2 grown boys. I found out that I was gluten intolerant after years of allergies, GI problems, hormone and weight issues. The problems come from the gluten that was poisoning my body. I also found out about yeast build up in the body. Did you have a yeast infection when she was born. Good luck with the rash and check out the eating for your blood type diet. Go see a naturopathic doctor. They treat allergies from the inside out . Allergies are a symptom of an overactive immune system and often lessen or heal themselves with holistic treatment and diet changes etc...doctors are limited in what they can do other than recommend steroid cream or antihistamines which are just a band-aid approach. You want to get to the root cause of her rash- what is going on inside her body. Hope this helps!

I would take her to another doctor...an allergist perhaps? They can do a full panel of common allergens all at once, so you don't have to take all sorts of stuff away. It's no fun, but worth it. Not that it's a bad idea to take away all sorts of food, but seriously there's a huge spectrum of things that could be causing it. You unfortunately can't test for chemicals on allergy panels, so you could by all rights remove those from her. My kids are very sensitive, my oldest especially. Try an all natural soap, like a goat's milk or castile...and like with food, the least amount of ingredients the better. No dryer sheets or fabric softener, plant based or sensitive skin detergents. My daughter actually gets headaches when I use regular detergent. If benedryl has not helped though, I'd be pretty interested to see if it even is an allergy. There are yeast infections that can happen on the skin as well and left untreated can spread and be very uncomfortable. Between my three kids, we've invested quite a bit of money in different prescriptions at the dermatologist and allergist and never had good luck at the regular pedi. Above all, if you're not satisfied with what the doctors are telling you, bring her to another one :) Good luck!

all the answers are great, i am home day care provider, so i see it all, i have a little girl that has a very bad dry rash, and a lot of times it comes from a lack of moisture in the skin, what i recommended from the dr's, when taking a bath, add a little salt to the water, pat dry and lotion her whole body, the salt whole the moisture in, she even took her to the pool and that helped.

Check for a latex allergy too. some disposable diapers have latex in them. my daughter has allergy to latex and got the worst diaper rash i have ever seen on a kid when i switched diapers.

Go back to the doctor and have them figure out what she's allergic to. If they won't help go to another one. And try to switch detergents and everything in the meantime. Don't leave the doctors until they have done their job.

Why would they send you to a dermatologist? Ok it's routine but ummm..no. Ask your Dr. For a referral to see an allergist specialis. One day I put a new plastic cover on my my toddler's bed last year along w/a sheet & put him ont he bed for the night. I had my nephew over for the evening & asked him to wake him up to potty to prevent an accident. When he went in to check on him I heard my nephew's scream 10 octaves higher than his normal voice like an opera singer. I came in running & my baby in 30mins time was unrecognizable. His entire body was swelling & his head looked like the elephant man & rashes were everywhere. Rushed him to the Dr., epipenned him gave him benedryl & in 3hrs he was darn near back to normal. The Dr. Told me he was allergic to certain plastics. Go figure. Told me to go back to his reg. Ped. To get a referral to an allergist. Come to find out he is allergic to cat dander & (we've had a cat for a year now), peanuts, eggs, certain breads, ragweed & some household plants. Saying all to say this..Don't give up! myson is 3 and has had this for almost 2 yrs now and they still do not konw what it is...he is going to the allergist again soon. we just recently switched back to baby all and it seems to help they also have baby purex. we use all free and clear hypoallergenic laundry soap, no scented lotions/soaps, use dove/johnson's and johnson's and used pampers sensitive skin wipes before he was potty trained. if it is a food allergy keep a food log. I would schdule an appt with an allergist. we had to go a bigger city and get a referral from our pediatrician to go to the allergist. he had allergy testing done and it was not too bad, 4 pokes on the back and they had him watch a movie while they did it he didn't even cry. its not as painful as it use to be. it also could be ezema which my kids both have. for that eucerin creme, utter butter balm works good.

Have you taken her to a dermatologist/specialist? I've found the best person that has helped me with health and skin rashes is my holistic practitioner that does NRT (nutritional response testing). Pricing can be all over the board. I've heard people spending thousands but I pay $25/visit. They are able to test what is causing the rash. It could be an immune response or it could be external but best to get it checked by someone who knows what they're talking about.

I had a rash when I was young and dr told my parents is would go away with age. It came back as a teenager and it came back worse than ever a few months ago. Turns out I have psoriasis and I was eating foods I didn't know I was allergic to like potatoes. It wasn't the food specifically that was causing the rash, but that the overload of foods caused an immune reaction, which is the rash.

Hope you can find out soon, it's no fun having itchy skin. I've found the best remedy for any skin issue has been aloe vera. Get it without all the additives and junk from a health food store or get a plant and juice the pulp. It's great for relieving itch, healing rashes & scars etc

I'm surprised if they think it's an allergic reaction they haven't tested to see what she could be allergic to. My daughter who is two has had a reaccurant rash for the past couple months which they said was a viral rash although i don't remember ever getting rashes from a cold?! As soon as it goes away she gets another one in the same area? Not sure the drs are right?! I would suggest goin to the dr and asking for testing if that's what they think it is. Good luck!

If the dermatologist say it's an allergic reaction then ask them to what? It could be something she is eating or drinking. If they won't do tests to see then perhaps write a food diary for a week of all that she eats and drinks then cut out one of the items, e.g. dairy, for a week and see if it makes a difference. If it doesn't, add it back to her diet and cut out something else. It won't take long to find out if it's a particular type of food. Eczema is also very common, and can be really uncomfortable, but it can also be triggered by certain types of food. Good luck.

If it's an allergic reaction you need to start off by eliminating everything from your routine that can cause irritation. So if it's got dyes and perfumes in it, don't use it. If it's got parabens and alcohols in it, don't use it. If it's got Sodium Sulfates in it (SLS) or surfactants, don't use it.

A good laundry detergent to try is ECOS: it's all natural and has no irritants in it. Good for the environment, too. Made for HE washers but can be used in standard machines as well.

For baby shampoo, body wash, conditioner, lotion, etc try California Baby. Again, all natural and no irritants. You can even get dye and perfume free (although the perfumes they use are organic essential oils).

If you use disposable diapers try switching to an organic brand that uses cotton.

And lastly, cut out wheat. No bread, crackers, cereal or pasta made from wheat. She may be allergic or sensitive to gluten.

What does the rash look like? could it be really bad eczema? Have you tried switching laundry detergents to something hypo allergenic? HAve you tried cutting milk and wheat out of her diet? Have you tried switching her soaps? how many baths does she takes in a week? Have you looked at what food dyes she eats on a regular basis that you ate while breastfeeding? Depending on what you've tried I might recommend kids polysporin. My friends kids all had really bad eczema and the only thing that helped was that. Also how much sunlight do you get where you are?

What kinds of products do you use to wash her with? I had very sensitive skin as a kid and still do. There was heaps of soaps and laundry detergants that I couldnt use. My daughter has just gotten a rash on her arm for the last few weeks and they think she is headed the same way. If you can try ruling things out, so stop all soaps and bubbles in the bath/shower use a soapfree wash that is ph 5.5 so like dermaveen also you could put some calimin lotion on the rash as this will stop the itching but dont use long term as it will dry out the skin and make it more itchy. dermaveen also make a lotion that helps with the skin. Get laundry soap that if frangce free. I know how hard it is when you dont know whats causing it but start with the little change that you can do just for her and see if it improves. Dont for get to wash her clothes with the new stuff. then that way if it starts to get better you know it could be something you can change. hope that helps a little
