Anyone have ideas for healthy lunches?

I am trying to get healthy ideas for lunches. My kids do not have a cafeteria, and I do not know what to give that will last till lunch. Any suggestions would be great!

I am looking for ideas more towards health wise. My kids eat peanut butter to the point that they hate it now. They also eat meat and cheese, but they are getting sick of that, too. I am also looking for better snacks. My kids seem to have the SAME repetitive lunch. We have to be careful what we send, also. Nothing that can dye carpet. So, nothing with spaghetti sauce, rred dye, or anything like that.

If you're having issues with foods lasting until lunch get them new lunch boxes with ice packs, most can carry for 12 hrs keeping the food cold until lunch & poss. when they get home if they didn't finish.

Ok then,thanks grappie for clearing that up. Let me break it down for you...keep up this time... I wasn't suggesting each thing be a complete lunch it's self rather giving options of different things to put together. Anyways, if your kid can't handle eating soup or chili without needing to call a hazmat team then yeah, don't give it to them. The sloppy joe stuff is still one of my kids favs, along with any kind of salad (egg,tuna,chicken). You put it in a small tupperware container and they scoop it with triscuits. Or just "fry" up some food to put in there lol. Love the hazelnut butter idea...I'm gonna look for that and the squeeze bottles with the sticks. I've seen them but wondered what was in the sticks and would they leak....

You can get some nice squeeze bottles with freeze sticks that screw into the top. We bought ours at Walmart for about $5 and they are BHP(?) free. I can't do juice boxes (red dye sensitivity) but these work great for keeping even milk cold. Pb&j has already been mentioned. My kids like (turkey)bologna with ketchup on it and the ketchup doesn't turn. String cheese sticks and fruit and pretzals is a popular one with my lot. I tried those thermos bowls for spaghettios and soups but maybe my kids are too young. If they don't finish it all they almost never get the lid back on good and you end up with an awful mess in the lunch bucket. Oh, and if you can't or don't do peanut butter, there is hazelnut butter around but you do have to hunt for it.

you can incorporate the vegetables in a meal because not all kids love vegetables and u want meals to excite them.....lol

ok ,I am from the caribbean and we probably do stuff differntly from you guys. But i prepare all my kids stuff in the morning and i won't give them the same thing everyday because kids get fed up quite easily. Fruit salad is not a balance lunch for a snack,appetizer yes. kids r very active during the day and they need food for energy. I won't give my kids sloppy joe to carry to school because it is too messy it all depend on how old the kids r. I do sandwiches as well soups and chillis r too messy. the vegetables u mention r great for snacks but not lunch. What i mention above is just a summary of ideas if she's interested i will explain a full menu for her . Thanks

ok,she said "that will last till lunch",yogurt,cheese,sushi,milk, none will be good at lunch time...unless you use an ice pack. I make fruit salad at the beginning of the week and the kids will take that almost every day. I should start by saying section or small tupperware is your first step to keeping it "green" and handy too. Sandwiches/wraps/bagles (I love the quiche idea,and I do it in muffin tins so they are "fun size") veggies and dips, hard boiled eggs, tortillas with salsa, salads with chicken, triscuits to dip into slopp joe stuff, quesadillas( super easy and they sometimes eat them for breakfast with eggs in them), soups, chili, breads (zucchini, pumpkin,bananna again in muffin tins), sunflower seeds, trail mix....

Hi, I hope these ideas help u out kids luv macaroni and cheese but u can spice it up by grating carrots in it or dicing spinach and bake it. Instead of giving them meat balls u can make tuna balls and spaghetti, any pasta and turkey sausages and u can make a nice real sauce, rice,and lentil patties, tuna patties and burger buns, for the meat lovers u can fry chicken nuggets and make plaintain chips instead of potaoes . Honey I have a whole lot of recipes dat i experiment with i have 2 kids one is a vegetarian and one is a meat lover if your interested i can give u some more hints and my recipes.

If your kids are not allergic to peanutbutter that is a great choice, with spreadable fruit. Apples, nectarines, and oranges for the fruit, boxed juices or a thermous of milk.

Turkey sandwiches on whole-wheat are always good! If you put lettuce next to the bread the turkey won't make the bread soggy. Apples and carrots are always good sides. If your kids like nuts those are also good. Whole-wheat crackers with low-fat cheese, yogurt packed in a cooler, etc.

When my son was younger, I used to make "sandwiches" with pita bread pockets and tortilla wraps...using lots of veggies and a moderate amount of meats....wrapping it in plastic wrap and aluminum foil helps to keep it cold until lunch time. I would send condiments in a separate little container so he could add it at lunchtime...sometimes you can find mayo and dressing in individual packets at a restaurant supply store--I've even seen them at the local dollar store. Another favorite of my son's was the yogurt tubes. I'd freeze them...they'd be thawed but still cold at lunchtime; you can do the same with juice boxes--if they're not totally thawed by lunchtime, they'll be like slushies--the kids love 'em. Fresh veggies (baby carrots, celery, broccolli, cauliflower and cherry tomatoes) always goes over well too. Good luck.

peanut butter on whole wheat, yogurt, cheese sandwiches, apples, carrots, celery with ranch dip. The protein and fiber from the fruit will keep them fuller longer.
