The trick to getting rid of fleas for good is to treat the house, the yard, and the dogs. Vacuum daily, even a couple times a day if you can. Vacuum in dark places like under sofas and beds and near baseboards where fleas like to hide.
Treat the dogs with a good, high quality flea and tick preventative like Frontline or Advantage. HARTZ AND SARGEANTS DO NOT WORK.
For the yard you can buy either liquid pesticide that attaches to the hose and you spray on or a granule called Se7en dust.
Do all of these things and wash all linens or fabrics the dogs sleep on or are in contact with regularly and your flea problem will be a thing of the past.

You know what works well? If you take some borax and sprinkle it on the carpet and let it sit for a while, it will kill the fleas. Then you just vacuum it up. It dissolves their exoskeleton, and it's safe for you to use in the home around animals and children. Good luck!
