Are there any tips on how to deal with my 8 month old's fear of the vacuum cleaner?

I have an 8 month old daughter, who is extremely afraid of the vacuum cleaner. I haven't had any issues with my daughter at all.. including teething, eating, sleeping through the night, never any problems, BUT... when I turn on the vacuum she screams her little head off, and takes a while to calm down even after it's off and put away. It isn't the loud noise because noises, loud noises, don't bother her. I have tried holding her while I vacuum, and have tried my husband holding her while I vacuum, but nothing helps. Has anyone else had this issue? Or does anyone have any tips to overcome this fear.. or even make it a little easier for her?

yes what I did was make it fun for her by giving her rides on it and daddy and me would "chase" each other while she was in our arms.

YES< YES AND YES! My son would just go absolutely NUTS when we vacuumed. I tried holding him, showing him the vacuum when it was turned off... Have his brothers play with the vacuum while he was around but he still was upset... So I left the vacuum in a spot where he HAD to walk by it to get to the kitchen. He wasn't too pleased in the beginning but after a week he would walk by it without problems... within 2 weeks in total he had no problems with the vacuum at all whether it was on or not. now he loves to vacuum the carpets.

one of my girls was afraid of the vacuum. she eventually got past it but i just had to remind myself that she was not hurt and it really does not hurt them to cry. i would hold her or put her in a sling or in her playpen. afterwards i would just try to take her mind off of it with something she did enjoy. i never found anything that stopped the fear it just passed with age. Good luck and God Bless
