I am and always have been mama to my now 7 year old. I just wonder how much longer that will last. I actually kind of like it better than mommy only because I think most kinds would move away from mommy sooner that mama since it sounds kind of "babyish" if you know what I mean. I hope she keeps calling me mama for a long time.

My 5 year old calls me momma. Then when i don't answer she start singing a song momma, mom, momma, mom even when i answer. Kids got to love them. Lol!

My 4 year old used to always call me Momma now I it has moved to Mom and I miss Momma!!!! :( LOL!! I just love hearing him call me either or and espiecally when he says I love you Mom!!

Im a mama and mommy too. Sometimes my 5 yr old likes to add an o to the end of all of our names so we are mamo, dado, and Cado. His brother is Caden..

My daughter is 3, and she calls me mommy or mama but it changes to MOM or my whole name (middle name included) if I'm not paying attention to her.

So funny how kids call names on their moms.Mine would first give a kiss in the air and say mummy.If it was her dad it was straight daddy not with a kiss.As she grew up all changed.

I have a psychological theory about the words 'ma', 'mommy', 'mother', and 'mom'. I think it is a need sound, NOT a name. It has just adapted into one because society believes that mothers should go to their children when they have a need, and they are usually the ones that respond to need sounds. On the other hand, 'dada' is an easy to make sound when a baby is happy and smiling/playing. The mouth forms the words easier. It has adapted into the meaning of 'father' because that's usually what fathers are doing with their children. This is universal in all languages, the 'ma' or 'na' is always present.
So my daughter will know me as 'snort' and her father is known as 'queen frou frou'. :)

I was always Mum (Mummy when they were very young), but my eldest (a very independent young woman) has been calling me by my first name since she was about 14. My son calls me any 'mum' name he can think of these days (ma, mother, mater, maman, mutter, mommy, and, my personal favourite, mumsie wumsie) - but then, he's 18, and I get my own back by calling him my little poppet lamb in front of his girlfriend...

My son just turned 5 and he calls me mom, but he also calls my mom; mom...I call her momma. He did call me momma until about a year or 2 ago, it just all of a sudden changed. He called my parents all kinds of things until he got to grandpa and mom- sometimes grandma.

I am all of the above lol. When our son talks English it's mommy and when he's talking French it's Mama and if he gets mad if i dont' answer right away it's mom or ma...depends how urgent he wants it to feel lol. He is 2yrs old:)

It seems to change as they get older. I am Ma to our 19 yr old, Mom to our 12 yr old, Mommy to our 3 yr old and Mama to our 2 yr old twins.

How cute!!! DaDa is usually their first words, but it will come a time when he calls you mama. DaDa was my 5 year old first words too but now I can't get him to stop calling my name. DaDa is invisible now and its all about mama.

my 19 month old doesn't call me anything. He says DaDe all the time, and many other words, but just doesn't care to say Mama or yes, or no yet.
