At what age can you stop sterilising bottles.

My daughter is 6 months old. I am not sure if i need to keep sterilising the bottles until she is 12 months. I wash them in hot soapy water and then put them in the microwave steriliser for 4 minutes and boil the water for 5 minutes to fill the bottles.

The only time I sterilized the bottles is when they first came out of the package. Otherwise I just wash in hot soapy water.

i'm with the other ladies - i steralized them before the first use then just used hot soapy water and a good brush after that.

I sterilized them once, right out of the package, with boiling water. After that, I used hot, soapy water and a bottle brush to clean them. I used tap water to mix the formula unless we were travelling, and then bottled was just easier. Your baby will be eating things off the floor, dropping toys and picking them up to stick in her mouth, so not sterilizing bottles or nipples isn't gonna hurt her. If it makes you feel better to do it though, go right ahead lol Personally, I think it's a waste of time, unless the bottle gets dropped into the toilet or a litter box or she smears poop all over it....other than that....just "regular" dirt won't hurt. Soapy warm water :)

I figured once my daughter was moving around she was putting everything in her mouth anyways there was no need to be sterilizing her bottles. I continued to use filtered or boiled water the whole time she was drinking formula because the normal tap water upset her tummy.

I stopped when my children where crawling as I figured that them being on the ground they would be picking things up. I continued to use boiled water until they went onto cows milk

@Emily I always think the same thing "why do i sterelise these damn bottles when he's licking the dirt out of the door tracks"

I only sterilized bottles one time when my first child was born. With my second I didn't sterilize a single bottle. In my opinion it's unnecessary. Especially when they're crawling around on the floor and sticking their hands in their own poo... ;) an unsterilized bottle is the least of their worries ;)

Only ever sterilized bottles when they were bought brand new or bought new nipples. After that just a good washing. There is no need to sterilize any longer actually she would have been fine had you stopped a long time ago. I never boiled water either we have city water so they only got water out of the tap.

my son is 12 months and i still sterelise his bottles only cos its a hard habit to break but i have broken the boiled water routine

I stopped with all my kids at two weeks, but continued to boil the water until they were a year.
