At what age do they typically switch to one nap per day?

Pretty much what everyone here said.  My youngest is two now but at about 1.5 he went from a mid morn nap to after lunch naps and the length depends on how well he slept the night before, how busy he was during the day and if he is growing or cutting teeth(which I think we have finally reached a finale on those for a while).

My girl is 15 months old, and she is now starting to take one nap a day...I think your baby will tell you this, before the age of 15 months she really needed her sleep...sleeping a lot makes them grow better...(I was told)

I have 4 kids and my 4 yr old daughter still naps in the early afternoon. If her schedule is different, because she is changing it, maybe you can think of a new schedule. If you baby wants only one nap, you can accomodate that, and you can put her to bed a little earlier. Listen to your baby, if he/she needs a nap and lays down with no problem than that's what he/she needs. If they fight the nap then they don't need it at that moment. Try again a little later.

My son switched to one a nap a day around 12 months.  This nap was a longer nap then when he took two thought.  Good luck.

It might be a growth spurt. My daughter was 16 mo before she made the switch. Keep trying to have her on the two nap schedule, even if it is just quiet time snuggling.

my son is almost two and still takes a nap once a day, every once and while he will fight it but try to hold onto that nap as long as possible.  My daughter gave them up at about 10 months and it was really hard somedays.  I think girls are more social and just don't want to miss anything.

My daughter changed to the one nap a day (usually around noon) when she was 11 months old. She used to take short naps of about 1 hr in the morning and afternoon, and now we get a good solid 2 to 2 1/2 hr nap out of her.

typically they go to one nap by the time they turn 1, but all kids are different. my daughter would nap for 4 hours if we let her when she went through growth spurts as a baby, but some days now that she's 4 she'll skip a nap completely. you never can tell. good luck:)

Great question!  My daughter still usually take 2 naps and she is 13 months old.  She occasionally skips the morning one though.  I keep thinking she is going to give it up, but right now still needs it most days.

Around 10 months, maybe a little earlier, my son stopped taking his morning nap and would rather play. Now he is 15 months, almost 16 months old and he still has one afternoon nap, but the amoutn of time he sleeps then varries by day, anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours. But he is doing his naps all on his own, The only thing I do is put him down in his playpen or in a safe sleeping place after lunch and he decides the rest.

It's a battle to get our 4 yr old to take a nap. But if he doesn't have it, he's in meltdown mode by 5pm.  So, I force him to take a nap everyday.  He fights it at first but always ends up sleeping for more than an hour.

My son is 16 months old and most days he still takes a nap in the morning and a nap in the afternoon. If he skips the 2nd one he's ok, but usually gets extremely cranky around bedtime. I'm not sure when he'll combine but for right now I'm not going to force him. :)



Maybe your daughter is just trying to take her first nap later in the day. My son went through that. He was on the same schedule for months and suddenly he refused to nap at the same time. It sounds like you are very in tune with her needs so I bet you will have her new schedule figured out in no time.



Oh, she may just be teething! My son got his molars early and those things screwed him up big time. I use teething tablets and they work wonders!

my daughter went to one nap a day around one, but she napped wierd (and still does) around growth spurts. But I found that after we went to one nap, she slept longer and we got a lot more done during the day. But I just read that children should take a nap everyday till they are 5! Woohoo! (I worry about that!) lol

I'd love the answer to that question too.  Our daycare told us that our son(who is currently 9.5 months) should be down to one nap a day around 12 months (or so) but he still takes one in the AM and one in the PM and I can't imagine him not having one of those.....
