I'm a big reader and an English teacher (or was before kids). My daughter's name was easy to come up with- Emmerson (so she can shorten it to Emme if she wants) after Ralph Waldo, a fav of mine. We're pregnant again and we have another girl's name ready, Harper, but no boy name. My husband has shot down every author, character and surname from all my favorites. Any suggestions?

My son's name is Jonas. I didn't realize until about two months ago that Jonas is the main character in the book The Giver, which was one of my favorites as a kid.

When my fiance and I had our youngest child (of 6!!) we quickly settled on a boys name, Drew. His name is Andrew James and his best friend, who had passed away recently, was named Drew, so it was a combo honor. When we found out it was a girl we had a whole new set of difficulties... We talked to everyone we knew to get input, finally 3 days before she was born a co-worker of mine suggested we combine our names since this was the first, last, and only child we would have together. My name is Amie Kelly and as I said before his name is Andrew James, we came up with Jamie. We were still undecided on a middle name, but when she was born we quickly came to Caroline-- which means little fighter-- and she was... from one hour old she fought for her life and did so for almost two years before she was finally healthy.... I guess this all says-- look at you and your husbands names, and look at name meanings... and don't have anything etched in stone till you see the little guy... many people don't have a confirmed name until they see the babies adorable little face!!

I don't have great suggestions... I wanted to name a boy D'Artagnan from the 3 musketeers until I saw how it was spelled....my ex-husband said this name is why we had all girls:)

Harper would be a great name too! I always liked two names for a boy and if we had a boy his name would have been Alexander Drake or Drake Alexander. It depended on how the kid look once he was born... Alex Is very common now but I have not heard Drake in a very long time! I would make Drake first... I am not a reader at all and I am not sure if Drake is from a book or not.

How about William? It can be shortened to either Will, Bill or Billy. How about Daniel...Dan Brown...the DaVinci Code and Angels & Demons? Just a thought. And don't worry we had a hard time finding a name for our boy as well.....we finally settle on Scott....hey that could work as well for F.Scott Fitzgerald.

Our youngest son is Ellory-change the spelling and you get author Ellery Queen... We also have an Emmett, but that might be confusing with your daughter's name.

well I read ALOT but not so much the clasics and such becasue we don't have a book store here just Walmart and Zellers so I usualy read thrillers and such....soooo not sure of a name from a book or author but I have a few faves to share, lol

Jayden (we chose that name for our son)

Ethan

Kegan

Landon

caden

Logan

Those were the names I had chosen if we had a boy and when he was born we knew he was Jayden! I also LOVE the name Riley. I like it for a girl though but it can be used for both. I plan on having 3 children and we plan on using that name if we get a girl....if by the third one we don't have a girl we will use the name for the last child either way!

I am a big reader as well and I always liked Phineas from A Separate Peace (such a great character, too) but I can imagine most husbands balking at that one. I am racking my brain - I remember a character named Brady from a book I read as a kid (cannot remember the name). Harper Lees characters had cool names - Atticus, Jem (short for Jeremy I think) and of course Scout which I think a boy could definitely use (Demi Moore has a daughter named Scout). Ryder is popular for boys now. I live in a french community and Livain is popular here - I like it (pronounced LEE-van). I also like Cole and Wyatt and Angus, and we short listed Aiden, Hunter, Jonah, Max and Caden and named our 2 boys Samuel and Luc (french version of Luke - both names work well in both languages...). My husbands name is Roch (pronounced Rock) and his fathers name is Marcel, which I also like. My husband hated my favourite names which I had imagined naming my children since I was a child - Shane, Liam and Julian. Good luck - dont you hate it when your husband inconveniences you by having opinions...

I have to girls Carly Rose and Chloe Renee and was hoping for a boy so the name I had was Cole Riley you could switch it up or just use one but I liked both and couldn't think of a middle name for either so I put them together. Good Luck.

With the last child, my husband and I could not agree throughout my 42 weeks of pregnancy on a name until we met our son. The moment we saw him, we both knew he resembled his grandfather, a Russian immigrant who became a national hero, and was at that moment named for him. My son has a very special namesake, so don't worry if you cant decide yet!
