Hi

Can anyone tell me when is the right time to start spoon feeding a baby, and how many bottles she should have when starting to eat solids?

My baby is 3 1/2 months old, is that too young?

There's no reason to spoon-feed baby at all. Purees and cereals typically involve baby being fed solids before he's ready for it.

When he's TRULY ready for solids he'll begin picking up food, and be able to put it in his mouth, chew it, and swallow it.

All of the 'seems interested, can sit up, makes mouthing motions, etc." is all baby-food company marketing hype.

Yes, 3 1/2 months is too early. What benefit do you think solids offer?

Look into baby led weaning, spoon feeding never worked for us. http://www.baby-led.com/ This is typically about 6mo. Let your baby tell you how many bottles they want. She will start eating more solids and drop bottles on her own, my daughter did it around 8mo. You can always ask your doc, mine told us to wait til six mo since my daughter's weight was fine and she slept well. They can also let you know how many oz of formula or bm she should be eating total each day.

The vast majority of professional organizations recommend waiting until the baby is 6 months of age at a minimum to start w/solid foods. Not sure about the bottles thing since I breastfed my little one.
