Does anyone know of anything you can give an 11 month old for a sore throat? I feel so helpless, every time he coughs he cries out in pain. any ideas?

Have you at least called your son's doctor's office and spoken with someone there? He should be seen to rule out infection. They will also have suggestions on how to soothe his throat.
That said, push fluids, whatever he will drink. Cold may help, but some warmish apple juice worked for my boys at times too. Try different temperatures and see what works best for him. You may need to alternate them. A humidfier or cool mist vaporizer will help. Baby Vick's Vaporub if it doesn't irritate his skin. Warm baths, steamy and lots of them. Tylenol or ibuprofen as per doctor's dosing instructions. He's too young for honey, but that is a good thing to remember for when he's older. Lots of snuggles from you. Good luck and I hope he feels better soon.

Big thing to make sure he is getting enough fluids and if he isn't he will not make enough wet diapers, but if he doesn't then you need to get him to the ER or doc if during office hours. Our son did that at about that age, we had to go in for fluids. It wasn't that bad he did really well. But we went in before it got bad!

DO NOT GIVE HONEY TO A CHILD UNDER THE AGE OF 2 YEARS. Ask the doctor about a throat spray; infants tylenol; popsicles. Also, it's an old wive's tail that milk causes more phlegm. It may thicken mucus slightly, but it doesn't cause the body to produce more UNLESS the body is allergic to milk.

I would go with a little bit of infant's Tylenol, and a popsicle. But it's definitely worth putting in a call to the pharmacist to see if there is something else that would work.

I would make an appt to be sure it's not Strep or anything else(google Mayo Clinic for good medical information. This is a trusted source) I don't think the typical topical sort of approach is going to work with a severe sore throat. Children's Motrin (Ibuprofen) is targeted more for taking on sore throats/ swelling. There our doses for infants and you can check that with your pediatrician or ask a pharmacist.

Do not try honey! It can cause botulism and is not recommended for infants. Have you tried infant Tylenol? My pediatrician recommends it.

Try frozen fruit bars, then he is getting his vitamin c - which helps the sore throat. Popsicles work to, but are not the "healthy" choice. However, my opinion is, that if it helps and makes him feel better - go for the popsicle.

You can also try peppermint, they have the soft peppermint sticks he can chew or you could even boil one in a little bit of water and let it cool and he may drink it. Hope he gets well soon

this is a hard one as you have not said what type of cough, if its chesty the milk will biuld up more mucus which it turn will make them cough try a little honey as it is mother natures natural antibiotic. when my kids were little a doctor told me to give them coke as it clean the passages and yes i know what parents think of coke but it realy worked. the very first thing i would do is find out by a doctor the cause i hope this helps p.s just a couple of table spoons should be enough
