Baby pooping weird....

My 5 1/2 month old sometimes poops turds.....I am worried because he is a breastfed baby and their poop is not supposed to be harder than peanut butter. Now his turds are not hard or pebble like, they are more like about as hard as ice cream out of a container but in the form of a turd. They usually are pretty soft and mushy and all over the diaper. I don't want him to be constipated....just wondering if they have turds every now and then.



He is on solid foods, but he is getting juice everyday to help to keep him from not getting constipated.

try watered down prune juice they have it in baby juice

I always found that a container of baby food prunes every day kept my daughter regular when we were transitioning to food. When she was about 11 mths we started to give her small bits of raisins. now at 13mths she's eating whole raisins and she's keeping nice and regular.

unless he is doing little pebble poo's, and you see him struggling and nothing is coming out then he is not constipated.... The solid foods could be the cause. He could have had slightly different amount and caused it. Also something that you have eaten could have gone through the breast milk and be making his poos differently.



As your milk changes (to match his nutritional needs), changes according to what you eat and also as his body digestive system starts to work more you will find that his poo's will start to change all the time now (well at least i did).



If you are giving him juice that could also be the cause. Here in aust it is not recommend to give babies juice under 2 as their little digestive systems can not handle all the sugar in it. If anything the best thing if you are looking at preventing constipation then its water. Juice because it has a laxative affect could also cause dehydration. Also its shockingly horrible for their teeth
