I like my Moby Wrap for a young baby-- holds them nice and tight and supports the head very well-- and an Ergo for an older baby/toddler

Ergo! Love it! You can use it from newborn to pre-school. My 4yr old still love going in it! Very versatile, very comfortable and even though the outlay might be a bit pricey, it's definitely worth every cent. And I've heard the re-sale price is ok too. It's great for breastfeeding as well, I fed my son many time around the supermarket without anyone noticing cos he was covered by the hood. Maybe you could get a few friend/family members to pitch in and buy you one, as I did, instead of baby clothes or nappies. I've never heard a thing said about the Ergo. Oh and congratulations!!

I used a mamasmilk sling with my last one and it was great! She had health problems that caused her to sleep 22 hours/day well into her 8th month, and I carried her in the sling during the day most days, almost all day. It allowed me to use both hands, didn't hurt my back, and I was comfortable taking her outside in it with me even on hot days because it was made of solarveil (SPF fabric). There is a flap for sleeping babies or breastfeeding discreetly, as well as a little pouch thing for a diaper and wipes should you choose not to use a diaper bag.

I never used a sling; I have huge boobs and they are horrendously uncomfortable for me. But I used a cuddly wrap (it's like a maya wrap but a tiny bit stretchier) and I made a mai tie carrier that I use all the time) I used the wrap more with my son (my first child) and the mai tie carrier with my daughter (my second) because it is easier to put her on my back using the carrier than the wrap. They both are great at distributing the baby's weight evenly and hold them in place quite securely. I can actually feed my daughter when she is sitting up in the mai tie; I just hold my boob up and no one can see anything lol. If you're not sure which way you want to go, see if you can borrow a few different styles to try out. Oh I also liked to use the cuddly wrap when they were newborns; it held them nice and close and they didn't shift around at all.

I used...i cant remember the name of it....but it was just one long piece of cloth that you could wrap around your body in different ways to hols your child in different posistions...it was PERFECT and amazzzzing...i was able to breastfeed without having to hold onto my daughter i could do it while walkin around the grocery store and no one had a clue it was happening...my daughter loved it as well....if she was wide awake i could wrap it in a different way so she could see around her and it was just perfect...i will see if i can find it so i can give you the name of it...but it was a long wrap...i cant tell u how amazing it was!!!!

I have a pouch sling (homemade, but very similar to a hotsling or peanut shell), a Cuddly Wrap, which is a long piece of stretchy fabric that you wrap around you, and a Baby Bjorn.

When my son was tiny, I really liked the sling. However, as he has gotten bigger, I find that it starts hurting my shoulder if I carry him in if for very long, so I don't use it much anymore.

The cuddly wrap is great. It's a little more time consuming to put on, and it took me a few times to really feel like I had it right, but it's very comfortable and I feel like my baby is very secure in it. And it's quite versatile as well - you can use it for a number of front carries, as well as back carries.

The Bjorn is okay, but I don't find it super comfortable - it's hard on my shoulders, and, I have heard it's not really recommended because the way the baby's legs dangle can be bad for their hips or spines or something. I want to get an Ergo baby carrier because I have heard nothing but good things about them. They're pricey though!
