My exclusively breastfed 4 month old baby has had diarrhea for as long as I can remember. In fact I don't know what a stool of hers would look like that wasn't diarrhea. The doctor sent us to a gastroentologist. She has been checked for infection and come back negative. She is gaining weight and otherwise healthy. Anyone experienced baby with something similar? What was the cause?

i breastfed my daughter for 8 mos and my son for 1 month. they are supposed to have quite watery stool with what looks like tiny cottage cheese in it. it should be a yellow color. the reason i stopped breastfeeding my son is because i couldn't identify what i was eating that was not agreeing with him. he had green to dark green diarrhea and it burned him (bad rash) and he screamed when he went. after we switched him to soy formula he "formed" up and had a perfect tummy from there out. we did soy because our family has a problem with lactose anyway. good luck with ur lil girl.

Could she be lactose intolerant?? Remember what ever you eat she eats,

Michelle's right. You don't describe what exactly this diarrhea looks like and I think you might be mistaking a normal breastfed baby poo with diarrhea.

Normal bf baby poos are usually a mustard color and very loose to liquid consistency. Often it's also grainy. My son (also bf) even had a few greenish poos that were what I would consider diarrhea, but are actually normal bf baby poo.

As MIchelle said, if the baby is happy, has enough dirty diapers and growing as normal... it's unlikely there is something wrong with the baby.

Breastfed babies tend to not have solid stools. If she is gaining weight and is happy don't worry about it. As soon as she starts on solids you'll be wanting these stools back :-)

When I Breastfed my babies they would go 5-6 times a day and it was very loose but OMG do they stink now!!!!! My daughter takes after her Father with the stink.
