Bedwetting!!! Help!

I had the smae problem with my son, and I know how frustrating it is for you! I tried everything, too, with no luck. He finally quit on his own at about age 7-1/2 or so. Our family doctor said that some kids sleep sounder than others, and sleep right through the urge to go. She also said that boys tend to wet the bed longer than girls do for some reason. Anyway, I know I'm not any help, but just wanted to let you know that it's normal. :) Just be patient with them, and don't scold them when the have accidents. You might also try waking them up to go when you go to bed, and once more sometime during the night.

Oh the world of having boys and this one of the most common things that they go through. He WILL outgrow it. My son was 11 before it "just happened" and he hasn't wet again . We just never made a big deal out of it, just changed the bed quickly. All the tricks like what you've tried won't make it happen any faster. Hang in there! The pull-up business must love boys!

I have a 10 yr old who up until he was 8 or 9 wet the bed, I took him to the doctor and he referred him onto the specialist and they gave him some pills, they said he had an overactive bladder. He took the pills for about 10 days and it really helped.

You may want to wake your children for a washroom rest before you go to bed. Their bladders are small and need to be emptied more often. Hope this helps. Grandma Chantal

I have heard great things about chiropractic and bedwetting. It doesn't hurt to try. Alos when they are going to the bathroom, have them go, then stop for a few seconds, then go again, so that they are gaining control and strengthening the muscles.

My 6 year old recently started having accidents at night...after it rarely being an issue. (I made sure it wasn't a bladder infection). I read about this home remedy of feeding your child a handful of raisins and walnuts at night before they go to bed. (about 3T Raisins and a half or a whole walnut...that was the tough one for us...had him eat them right together so that the raisin masked the taste of the walnut). I swear, it worked from the very first night. I have since heard many such success stories. Try it.

I had a similar problem with my son. I started waking him up when I was going to bed around 10:30 11:00 and making him go to the toilet. At first he was not happy about getting up and it took time to wake him up. I think it gave him the sense of knowing to wake up and go when he had to. Before too long I would hear him getting up to go on his own. It worked great for us.

My younger sister unfortunately we the bed until age 11. Everything, even overnight hospital testing to counseling was tried nothing seemed to work. She eventually outgrew it... She was very self consious about it and didn't want to wear training pants or pull ups. At sleep overs we would take a vinyl table cloth (has soft cloth on one side vinyl on the other, very inexpensive) and fold it cloth side up inside her sleeping bag that way if she did have an accident no one else would know the table cloth would absorb the mess but would not leak to other surfaces. She could roll up her sleeping bag and we could wash both later. The wetness sensor sounds like a promising lead...good luck.

Stopping them drinking will not stop them bedwetting. They are probably deep sleepers and will eventually grow out of it. Have you tried letting them change their own beds? I found this worked with one of my boys. My other boy wet the bed until he was 10 - we then discovered he was dyslexic and after that he stopped.

My 7 & a half year old still wets the bed too regardless of limiting his drinks and him going pee before bed. I actually wake him up once at night too and still doesn't help. My. Dr. put him on a pill that helps dry up there blatter but that didn't work either...

my son was a bed wetter until he was eight. my doctor told me to put a shower curtin on the bed . the nights he had the shower curtin on the bed he didn't wet take it away he would. i don't know why this works but it does. i ran a daycare for 5 years and it has always worked. its something to try and its very cheap. save the matress ro if he does wet.

My oldest son had the same problem.It turns out that many childrens bladders haven't grown big enough to hold that amount of liquid and some just sleep very deep. I have four boys, and only one bed wetter. The night time pull ups saved his dignity and sleep. He didn't grow out of it until was 11. It will pass Don't get dispared. Just love and understand and talk to him.

I was told by my doctor when my son was having bed wetting problems to make him hold it for at least 10-20mins longer. This helped his blader to expand so he could get through the night with out wetting the bed.

i was a bed wetter myself as a child. whether i had a drink late or not. so my mum used to wake me up to go to the toilet. my daughter who is now 5 had a problem at one point so i used the same technique on her and it worked. if she needs a wee at night she does wake up.

i had to wake my son up around midnight or so until he learned to not go in the bed anymore. it was a sacrifice of sleep, but less sheet washing!

My son had accidents at night until he was 6 too. Unfortunately limiting liquids really doesn't do too much (although it doesn't help to tank up on drinks all evening) and peeing before bed doesn't help. The other thing that doesn't help is Pull Ups or diapers at night. Believe me I know it's the easiest, but they pee in them and never wake up to make the association. It is a hassle to change sheets and PJs at night, but I think that its important for kids to realize they need to pee and night, get up, and go. They also have alarms that will alert your child at the first sign of wetness (I know some girls at work who have had great success with these devices with their own kids). Good Luck

well my youngest is 6 and he still has accidents at night, so i decided altho it is a pain some nights i put him to bed at a set time and just before i go to bed i get him up to go to the toilet and after awhile he has learnt to get himself up to go to toilet so i found that it helped doing it this way

I agree with Trish...I have two boys...both grown now, but one was a wetter and one wasn't. I think you have to just deal with it, and not get mad at them...they cannot help this and the older they get the more embarassing it gets, but they eventually will out grow the problem....PATIENCE!!

Had the same problem with my 5 year old - but found the Nite Train-r in the Leaps and Bounds magazine and thought why not! I believe it was around $80 but I felt it was well worth it! It did work for us - it's basically an alarm that goes off when it begins to feel moisture - your child will have to wear a moisture -sensing pad that attaches to an alarm that you velcro and safety pin to their pajama top - it took some time getting used to but we discussed it in detail before he wore it and made him aware of exactly what would happen when the pad sensed moisture! I would agree with Trisha - my 9 year old was in pull ups until Year 1 at school and my 4 year old looks like he's going the same way. Now my 11 year old daughter was dry at 2 day and night. They're all different but it all works out in the end! x

I have twin boys who are 4 yrs old and they still wet the bed. I dont give them a drink 1 hr before bed and if they dont wet the bed that night i reward them with a stamp, if they do wet the bed i tell them its ok and we'll try again tomorrow night. The boys love getting stamps. If that doesnt work try greating them up in the night when they make a fuss and get them to go to the potty.

do your boys cope ok with the dark, im just wondering whether its because they are scared to get out of bed to go to the toilet. i was a bed wetter when i was a child and it was because of the dark. just a thought maybe leave a night light on,rita.

I was always told not to limit liquids as that can irritate the bladder and make the problem worse



I would say that boys are slower than girls and I would just stick some type of nappy pants on them and let them grow out of it - they will eventually
