before I call the doc and sound stupid, is this normal?

I just got my first period after having my baby, and it's been going on for about 2 weeks now with no sign of stopping. It's not a real heavy flow, just annoying! Is it normal for it to last this long? When will it end? I'm breastfeeding, but my son eats solids and I was on the pill but got off because it was affecting my milk supply too much. My period started when I switched from the minipill to regular pills, could that have something to do with it? It sure was nice being period-free while it lasted!

Sounds normal. The first one sucks for some reason, as if the post partum bleeding wasn't enough.... But, if you are breastfeeding, you should still be on the minipill. Otherwise, the baby is getting the extra hormones. - You should call, just to make sure, but the period sounds normal. It will end, sooner or later and hopefully sooner for your sake! Good luck!

It's normal to bleed for up to 6 weeks postnatal.

hello, this is pretty normal. As long as you are not heavy and have no clots it is ok. Your hormone are alittle out of wack with having a baby, breastfeeding and being on those pills. Give it some time it should slow up if it doesn't just call your doctor and let them know what going on.

Not a stupid question at all! I'm in the medical field and there are all sorts or ridiculous questions that come out and this is something I would call my doctor for without worrying about sounding stupid. Better to be safe than sorry!

Ok, I had my period for like 2 weeks and then all of a sudden today it stopped. There was no day or two of brown like with my normal periods, it just disappeared. Last night I was bleeding, and when I woke up this morning my pad was clean and I haven't bled all day. So bizarre! If I can remember I'll call the doc on Monday. Is that what happens? It just disappears?

I went through this too. My period after I gave birth was very strange and extremely painful. I was put on the pill at first-orthotricyclen lo- and it was awful, but I didn't really think to attribute it to that. Then I decided to try the birth control patch, because I was having trouble taking the pill every day at the same time (my post pregnancy brain seems to be a little on the ditzy side at times) and since being on the patch my period has been completely back to normal.

I had this same problem when i got my first period after having my son. Mine lasted for a month straight and finally ended and ever since has been normal and going with the flow of my pills. Everyone i talked to said it is usually normal since you dont have a period for so long

I bled for 6 weeks after I had my daughter. My doctor told me that what should happen is the flow should lessen and lighten as things go on, but if you are still bleeding fairly heavily and it is bright red after 5-6 weeks, then there could be problems. I actually had a uterine infection, which was why I bled that long and heavily. If you are worried about it, I would definitely go see your doctor. I've always thought that the only "stupid" question is the one you don't ask when you're worried.

I agree with Veronica, everyone is different, and there are no stupid questions when it comes to your health!! It's better safe than sorry!! Plus if you call and it's nothing, it's that much sooner that you will not have anything to worry about and you can get back to enjoying the baby!!! Good luck!

i would double check with the doctor regardless of what anyone says - especially when you are dealing with pills, and having a baby. Dont' feel stupid ever, you know your body better than anyone, and you are the only one that can tell anyone else whats going on, and stand for yourself -- just get checked out to be rest assured. (We may all be women here, but aren't experts)

This is very Normal.... I bleeded the 1st 5-6 weeks after havin my daughter and then did not get a period for a good 2 months after but I also breast feed my daughter for her 1st 7 weeks!!! But when I stoped breastfeeding I started about 2 weeks later and did not stop for about 5 months after and the bleeding was like I just had her.... it was HELL!!! But I did end up going to the Dr. and they had to put me on some hormones pills to make me stop bleeding my daughter is now 10 months old so really the whole 10 months she has been born I been dealing with this..... but finally this month June it was back to normal.... Thank God!!! Just call you OB and ask them if you want a clear mind... Believe me I started to get a little worried after 2 months!!!!

Hope I have helped ya!!!

Huh I have never heard of this! I checked into it quickly and apparently it is in the range of normal. And yes, changing your hormonal replacement therapy can certainly affect your breakthrough bleeding. Hmm, I wonder if you had breakthrough bleeding and then regular menstruation?

Although this didnt happen to me i have heard many similar stories, so i think it is normal but if u feel worried about it then it cant hust to just ask a professional so u are not wasting energy worrying about something when u might not need to =)

Probably is normal with all the hormones and changes going on, but it is worth at least a phone call to the nurse just to make them aware of what is going on. They may have some suggestions for you or may want to see you in the office. It is frustrating, isn't it!

My first post-partum period was almost 3 weeks of pure bleeding hell. So yeah, normal.
