my son was 9lbs 11 1/2oz he as very big and my daughter was 9lbs 1 oz. i wouldn't be concerned at all. my kids are perfect. there are bigger babbies out there and i have no problems. don't worry.

My little girl weighed 9lbs. 15ozs. She was so much bigger than my boy that came out 7lbs. 8ozs. I'm not exactly sure but, I think Chase was bigger at 2 than Jonna. Kids will turn out how they were suppose to. My brother was very small, 5lbs or something, and he is 6'4, 270.

My dd was 9 lb 4 oz and 22.5 inches at birth. She is still the top of the charts at 3, she was 40 lbs and 41 inches. Since the end of January (when she went to the doctor) she has gained at least a pound and an inch! I wouldn't worry about it. He will either slow down or just be big like my dd :)

If his percentiles are about the same he is growing fine.
We would never have basketball and football players if all babies were small.
Don't worry too much unless his weight is not matching up to his height.
If you feel he is getting too fat; cut the cereal and formula and offer more fruits and veggies.

Most likely normal; if his doctors aren't concerned and he's not just a fatty.
If Dad or uncles are bigger he may just be taking after them.
Some babies start out big and slow down at about 2-3.
I wouldn't worry.

If the Dr is not concerned, Don't be concerned. Try to ignore people that make comments. Some will say that he is big and others will come up and say that he is small.He is perfect the way God made him.

If he seems healthy otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it. My oldest son was 8lbs 3oz and he had a really broad chest and was a bigger baby, also formula fed, and people didn't miss a beat with the size comments, but now he is 6 and is a tall proportioned young boy, and then my 3rd son was 9lbs and 10oz and he too is filling out really well. But then the middle boy was only 7lbs 14oz and he is short and petite. So they really do vary in sizes.

My Dr. always said that formula fed babies would be slightly bigger than the average breast fed baby. So don't worry, just enjoy him!!

All kids are different....I have 4 kids & the first 3 were born between 9lbs & 10lbs & were all 57cm longs, at 6 months they all weighed around the 19 - 20lbs mark....whereas my last was born 7lbs 2ozs 48cms and at 12 months she weighed the same as the other 3 did when they were only 4 - 5 months. My oldest girl born 9lbs is the skinnest tiniest thing & a little shorty, my 6 year old is normal size, and my 3 year old born 10lbs just looks a little older then what he is, he is still a little taller then the average, but like his older siblings I'm sure he'll come back down to average, in the end it all evens out....People always used to get a shock when I told them how old they were really, now with my daughter she is the opposite, she is very tiny for her age....The weight & height measurements for ages are very wide in range my older 3 who were in the higher end were considered within range, and my daughter who at 12 months weighed what they did at 5 - 6 months, was considered within normal range....they were in the top percentile whereas she is in the bottom percentile. As long as he is healthy, happy & developing, he sounds perfect!

I had a 10lbs 7 oz boy who has always been a very big boy..the nurse even had the guts to tell me he was overweight for his age....ummmm my son has a six pack....If he is eating the right foods and is racing around everywher then I would not be to concerned. my son is now 5 and is in clothes to fit age 6 and 7....no biggie

I have a friend whose son was six months old and the size of a two year old. My two year old is about the size of a four year old. She rides bikes, roller skates and wears an 8 1/2 shoe. She is sturdy (and constantly called a boy). Shoe sizes are never accurate, so don't let that worry you, either.



I don't know what "normal" is for a baby, truly!

My daughter was 11lbs 8oz when she was born and was quite a chubby baby, now at the age of 6 she has slimmed down but wears age 8-9 clothes and has size 2 feet.My 10 year old son is also above average for his height, but on my mums side we are a tall family.

is he on the same growth curve? if he is he is fine11 dont worry about it! my some was 9lb 5oz at bitrh, he now weighs 21lb 11 oz!! he is breastfed! some babies are just big!!

My son was 10lbs 10oz when he was born! He now is 10 months and weighs almost 25lbs and is in 18-24 month clothes. He is very healthy and the ped is not worried. It is baby fat! They slim down when they get more active start walking running and so on. I wouldn't worry unless they are toddler age and still very overweight. Then I would talk to the ped about it. He is just going to be a big strong boy!! And he is sooooo cute! He will lose the baby fat.

I would not worry at all my last daughter weighed 9 lbs 5 oz and she is now 5 years old and a couple weeks ago someone thought her and her sister were twins and her sister will be 8 in Sept. Anyways she is built on the bigger side but she is not fat one bit. she is about 5 lbs different from her sister who is tall and skinny and hides her wight of 76lbs.

My daughter was 9lbs 8oz when she was born, but she has slowed down. But all 3 of my children have been 20 lbs at approx 6 months old. Some kids grow different than others and that matters is if your baby is healthy.

My Son Was born 9lbs.5oz. he is just over 6 months and he weighs 9.5 kg.... and he has size 3 shoes... i wouldnt worry.. i was a bit worried but i figure when he starts moving around he will lose a bit. I breast fed him until he was 4 months old... I think its good in a way bcoz if he gets ill he kinda has some backup weight ....

My baby was 9lb10oz, she is now 9 years old. In the first two years Plunket (our baby health nurses in NZ) kept saying she needs dieting... it was rubbish, she has grown into herself perfectly fine. She's just a well developed girl, instead of reedy and skinny. She just looks older than she is, and isn't fat, just mature.

No worries...they all grow differently. All mine were around 8 lbs at birth....but that is where they stopped being similar. My first daughter (baby #2) was big and wearing 12-18 month clothing size by the time she was 6-7 months old. My other daughter (baby #3) just turned 14 months old and I'm JUST putting her in the 12 month size now. Besides, no one really remembers what a "one year old" looks like unless you have one presently at home :). Enjoy it. Tell them, "yes...isn't he AMAZING" and give a big grin!

Hello, my daughter weighed 10 lbs. 6 oz. at birth and my son weighed 9 lbs. 11 1/2 oz. My daughter lost her baby fat by the time she was 9 months old. She was very active. My son took a little more time to loose his weight. He was very content, just sat there, he didn't crawl until almost 1 yrs. old and only started walking at 15 mos. old. They didn't have huge appetites, they did ok. I would say don't worry unless you think that he might have a weight issue. Once he gets more active I am sure he will loose his baby fat. Good luck.

At this point I wouldn't be too concerned. My son was 9lbs. 5oz and was 22.5 inches long. When he was 3 months old he was wearing a size 12 months. At one point he was a little overweight but when he hit his growth spurt, he grew like a tree. He is now 6 ft 2 in tall and weighs about 220. He is not fat, he carries his weight very well. Just continue to monitor his weight gain, when he start walking he will thin up some too. Hope this helps.

I personaly would not worry about it to much. My daughter was 9lbs 14oz when she was born. She is 2 1/2, and is perfectly heathly she was and still is above the averege growth of all the kids her age. My daughter will never be small and neither will your son, they just got the extra push and are going to be very tall adults. I took my daughter to the doctor being concerned as well and all they said to me was as long as they are not overweight and its a steady growth you have nothing to worry about! :)

My 1st was 10 lb, 2.5 oz. He lokked like the Michelin Tire man as a toddler. He eats like a bottomless pit. He is now 13 years old and is 150 lbs, 6 feet tall. His MD is actually concerned because he is TOO SKINNY!!

My second child weighed 10lb 14oz and was in 3 to 6 months clothes from birth. i was told on my thrid it would off been in the 11lb to 12lb but it came a month early weighing at 7lb 1oz my first weighed in at 8lb 4oz

i wouldnt worry my 2 girls was big babies (11,3) and(10,1) they are now grown up and are normal size adults. my 18 year old was in 6 to 12 month old clothes from birth.

I would not worry if I was you - my son is 7 months old, and weighs 11 kg (appr. 23 lbs). The only down side is my sore arms and back - apart from that he is a happy, healthy baby. Stop worrying, and enjoy your beautiful, big boy - ignore nasty comments from people! Let's be thankful that they are healthy and strong - it could have been the other way around!

My middle child weighed in at 10lbs 5oz and was born at 37 weeks. (I hate to think what he would have been at term) At almost 4 he is pretty much average. Dont worry.

my little boy was 10lbs when he was born...at 7 months he was in 12 month clothes and off the charts for height and weight. my doctor showed little concern since his height and weight were curving the same on the charts. he said he's be concerned if they didn't.

How much does he weigh now. My son is months old and weighed 9 lbs 10 ozs at birth and 23 inches long. He now weighs 17 lbs 6 ozs and is 28 inches long. Everyone says that he is big too.

My son was 5 pounds 13 ounces and 17.75 inches at birth, 7 weeks early. At 6 months, the age of your son, he weighed 22 pounds and was 28.25 inches long. He is now 3.5 years of age.....63 pounds and 44 inches tall!! He wears a size 6 clothes, and people definitely think he is 6!!!! I'll bet you just have a big one on your hands!! my second son was 9lbs 5oz at birth and weighed 20 lbs at 6 months. by the age of 4 he was tall and lean. i don't think there is anything cuter then a chubby baby! enjoy the little rolls now because once he gets moving they will melt away!!

My daughter was 7lb 4.5oz when she was born, quite tiny as a bundle, and then once she hit about 6 weeks just started growing. She has just turned 1 and is over 80cm tall and weighs nearly 11kg. She has been in size 2 clothes for several months and is 'off the chart' in measurements. She is perfectly healthy, just tall!!! The only problems I have had are with people who from an early age expected her to be doing things she couldn't possibly do because she was so much younger than she looked, if that makes sense! As long as your baby is healthy and happy it really doesn't matter what size they are :)

My first son was 9 lbs even, and then my second was 9 lbs 8oz... sometimes they are just big, healthy babies! My second is now 6 months old, and he is 20 lbs... I think you will be alright, they will usually even themselves out with the rest of the kids later on!

My son was 9 pounds, 11 ounces at birth and now, at 5 months, he's 22 pounds, 10 ounces and in size 4 shoes and 18 month clothes. He's not fat and he doesn't overeat, he's just big. If your baby's doctor isn't worried, you shouldn't be either. :)

My son was 9lbs 8oz at birth and is now 22lbs and wearing 18 month clothing at 8 months. Look up the height and weight charts online. This is how my son rates.

Age - Height: 95%

Age - Weight: 95%

Weight - Height: 50%

This means he is big for his age but a healthy average weight for his height.

My oldest son was 8 lbs 12 oz at birth, the smallest of my 6, but he grew the fastest of them all. At 8 weeks he was 21 lbs and growing. He was beastfed only until he was 6 months old. This was 17 years ago and he was my first baby and certainly the largest in my family. His height continued to match his weight and by the time he started moving around (walking at 10 1/2 mp) the weight seemed to even out even more. He is 17 now and 6ft 3, 215 lbs not fat at all with a size 14 shoe. You just never know. :) If hes healthy I say hes perfect :)

my son was only in new born clothes for a week he was growing that fast he now weighes 24lbs 6ozs but my hv said that was fine cuz he was big any way

Both of my sons were big babies. My first was 9lbs 3 ozs and my second was 9lbs 13ozs. My first baby grew fast and was in the 90th percentile right up til he was 18 months. He's gotten a lot taller and thinned out and now is the size of your average 2 year old. One he was walking and running around it made a big difference. He was about 6 months ahead in his clothing sizes too. My second baby is now 3 months old (and nearing 16 and a 1/2 pounds!) and quickly growing out of 6 month clothes, but they're both happy and healthy boys so I'm not too worried about it. As long as they're eating healthy and what they should be don't worry about it. They say that a baby will triple it's birth weight and double it's length in the first year and that's exactly what happened, some just do it faster than others! Enjoy him because you lose your "little" baby way too fast!

My daughter was born the same weight! She's completly healthy and turning 2 at the end of this month. She's still in the 100 percentile for her age height and weight. But she's healthy!!! Thats all that matters.

Sounds familiar :) My daughter was born 9lb 6oz and at 12 weeks weighed in at a hefty 15lb 7oz!! She never fit in newborn clothes either, and is now (at 3 1/2 mths) wearing 6-9mth old clothes and Crawler nappies. Basically, she's a big kid. Same as yours. As long as his rate of growth is acceptable I wouldn't worry. At one point my daughter was off the charts for her weight, after she gained 500g (just over a pound) a week for 3 weeks. Then I was starting to stress. But she's evened out, though is still on 97th percentile.

As for people commenting on your son's size, I certainly know what that feels like. My daughter constantly gets mistaken for a baby twice her age, and my baby nurse even said she's the size of a 7-8 month old. When people start laughing at her chubby belly or rolly thighs (often family members and always well-meaning) I suggest they check the mirror themselves :-P Seriously though, don't panic about it. And if you are really concerned, find a doctor or baby nurse you trust to reassure you.

hi my son was 10pound 41/2oz born then every week after he was born was puting on a pound a week the midwife told me to put him on baby food at 1month 1/2 and that helped a lot hes weight slowed dwn now my son is 2years old in 3 months and weighting 2 1/2 stone and size 7 feet but he doesnt look over weight just looks like a 3year old but very healthy lol dont think you have any thing to worry about xxx

HI, my son was 10lb 1/2 oz born, his cousin, born 6 months after him was 4lb 2oz (5 weeks premmie). They are both now 14 and 5ft 10inch. My son is tall and skinny and his cousin has to watch his weight. They say they all catch up at sometime. But do see your new doc to set your mind at rest. Hope he is just a big healthy baby:)

Hi, my daughter Ava was born on 11.10.09 weighing 9 llbs exactly. I have the same thing everybody always comments saying things like she`s a big girl or she`s a bonny baby which in the old days meant fat!!! She is now 31 weeks old and weighs 24llbs which I have also been told is the weight of an 18 month child. I have 3 other daughters and they were the same as babies but are now slim. I wouldn`t worry about it too much.

All 4 of my boys were large birth weights. The largest was 9lb 12oz. He was never chubby, just really long! At birth he filled the 0-3 month size and was wearing 3-6 months by 2 weeks old. He is now 8 years old and is still taller than his peers but not abnormally so. Its really nothing to worry about if your doctor is unconcerned.

Oh my goodness, if that is his picture he is beautiful!!!! I had a son who was 11 1/2 lbs at birth and 22 inches. He passed away at 19 weighing 215 lbs and 6' 1" He accidentally drown. I have a grandson that weighed 10 lbs at birth and was 22 inches and is almost 7 months and weighs over 20 lbs and is 29 inches. He also looks like a year old child and is wearing size 12 months clothes barely.

Take peoples comments as compliments and if you are feeling like there might be something wrong please contact your Dr. but until they prove that there IS a problem enjoy him once again he is PRECIOUS!!!!!

My little man was 8 lb 4 oz when he was born... now he's 6 months old & is 18 lbs 8 oz, 27 3/4 inches long, wears size 3 diapers, size 2-3 shoes, and clothes are anywhere from 6-12 months. We saw the doc yesterday for his 6 month check up, he's in the 80th percentile for his age, but he's happy & healthy so there is nothing to be concerned about! My husband & I were big babies, we both have brothers that are big guys, so I wouldn't worry if I were you, its probably just genetics. The way I see it is that I'd rather him be big & healthy than be scrawny & not healthy!

my daughter was born 9lb 9oz!! she has always looked big for age and people also comment that she doesnt look the age she is (6 and half months) she also is in size 2 shoes.

I also have big boys. Solid, well-built, and strong. My 6-and-a-half year old stands at 4ft 6, and weighs 81lbs. He's as big as some 10-year-olds we know. And he was only 6lbs at birth. I think they just take after their Dad. On that side of the family, all the men are 6-footers, and built like linebackers.

I just went and checked in my kids baby books, and yep, mine were big too. At 6 months, my older boy was 20 lbs, and 30in tall. Younger boy was even bigger. Same height, but 22.5lbs.

All babies are different, and they grow at their own rates. No worries, unless it gets to be a health hazard.
