I have a 3.5 yr old and I am having another one in July.

Me and my husband are getting bicycles and I was just wondering what would be the best child addition exspecially for my toddler? The seat you have on the back of your bike or the trailer you can connect to the bike?

I have 4 kids and I have used both and the trailer has my vote. The seat behind you makes the bike unsteady. The wagon or trailer however is really easy to pull. I used it for my 3 and 5 year olds last year. Plus there is room for a diaper bag.

Hope this helps. Good Luck

The kids seem to enjoy both. The bike seat will be cheaper, but you cannot use it for a newborn. The trailer usually has an add-on infant seat and could be used as a stroller for the two as well. Sounds like a good option.

my son is almost 4 and he loves the extra connecting bike thingy!! he can just sit and hold the handles, or petal if he wishes!!

i like that better, because they're more likely to get some excersise...

I ride a tadpole trike with a cargo compartment on the front called triobike. The front cargo crate has a bench seat with 5 pt harnesses for 2 children & holds a weight of 100lbs (most trailers max out at 100lbs) I have another friend who rides a similar bakfiet with 2 wheels called a Joe bike (from portland. There is a new trail-a-bike model where the child cam pedal or not pedal & has a seat with a back rest so child can sleep, with storage behind it for a backpack, toys, etc. Good luck!

wow thanks guys for all the responses

@Monica, yeah I'd be nervous too. Maybe an infant carrier and/or the front seat for the baby, we'll see what age I'd be ready to take her out

@Abbie, I'd definetly wanna go out on my own at some point.

Thinking I'll probably try the trailer, thanks again for all the advice

I am 99% sure that the trailers require that a baby can sit up on their own before using the trailer for them. We didn't use a bike seat til our son was over one, but I would check on that. Another thing to consider- will you want to bike on your own? If you do then the trialer is a good way to go, you can put both in. If its always a family thing, the seat is nice. I really like the seat behind you. I checked on the one that sits infront of you- but it woulnd't work for me, Im too short. If you google it you will find lots of options.

i would be so nervous with a newborn baby behind me in a trailer lol!!!
we waited til our daughter could sit up, and now we have a seat for her in the front of the bike, and our son rides on the attatchment in the back!!

We have a seat on the back of the bike and my son loves it. But, it only holds one child. I know they make the little trailers large enough to hold 2 children. You need to look at the weight restrictions and when will your son outgrow it.
