Hi,
My daughter is 22 and has BPD. She was properly diagnosed when she was 20 (Finally!). I have learned that heredity plays a huge role in Borderline Personality Disorder or any mental illness. The majority of people with BPD have other mental health issues such as; Depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Panic/Anxiety Disorder, Severe Social Phobia, and Somatoform Disorder (that is just some of the other disorders). Abuse can play a role in triggering this inherited disorder.
My daughter went through a lot from different forms of abuse. So she not only has BPD, she also suffers from post traumatic stress disorder, depression, severe social phobia, irritable bowel, and panic/anxiety disorder.
I love my daughter with all my heart! She is a wonderful person with a heart of gold! She is working extremely hard to overcome all of this with medication and therapy. The sad part is that BPD never goes away, so it will be a life long struggle. She is going to college (taking the classes online for now) and is pursuing a B.S. in Psychology and Child Development. She wants to help children, especially ones that have suffered abuse.
Wow, that was a lot to get out!! Thank you to this community for being there. I am thankful for your support.

Thanks for the comment and I can empathize what you and your daughter are going through. Mine was diognosed about a year ago. Once I started reading and researching about BPD the symptoms fit her like a glove. She's been in therapy since she was 4. She's almost 17. For years she never put in the work required to change but this last episode ended with her in the hospital. Now she says she's ready. I pray that's true.

Does anyone have a child that suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder?
My now 17yr old displays 95% BPD symptoms (I know because I suffer BPD) but she lives with her father and doesnt talk to me so I am helpless to get her help. I anonymously deliver literature to her letterbox but whether she reads it i am not sure. It breaks my heart because I know how hard it was for me to get diagnosed and finally treated & I believe if i had been diagnosed in my late teens or early 20s when I first recall symptoms, then i would not struggle to function today. The longer you have the problem behaviours without learning to change them the harder it becomes to learn the new tricks for an old dog like me. PLEASE if you suspect your child has BPD, then get them officially diagnosed and into a DBT therapy group SOONER rather than later.

Borderline Personality Disorders stem from some type of abandonment from an early age. It makes the child feel unworthy of love and grow up to have low self esteem. Without the proper therapy, life can be Hell for these kids. And the loved ones. I was just wondering if anyone else is going thru what I am and to see what they're doing to help their child.

I thought this type of personality happens among the teenagers especially. I believe they can outgrow it. Throwing tandrums can be seen as young as 1 year old.

I do.
Hi,
Wow, this is a first. My daughter is 16 and has had so many issues since she was 4. Her biological father would leave them alone at night when he had them and she would wake up to no adult. This is when her tantrums and self abuse began.
How old is your child and how did it start?
