Bowel movements in the bathtub?

My 20 month old son has a bowel movement during every bath or shower he takes. We are not potty training, he has no interest in it, which is fine, but this is getting to be too much. Any ideas what we can do?

Oh, I just saw your last post, My daughter also would freak if we tried to put her on when we thought she was going to go in the tub. I just let her be eventually b/c I didn't want her to hate the toilet.

we tried everything to get my daughter to stop at that age. Nothing worked. I think she was just relaxed more and so out it came. However she did potty train just after she turned 2, so maybe yours will too!

We have tried to set him on the potty before, he will sit there for over an hour and do nothing. I have been taking him from the tub to the potty when he starts to look like he might be going, and he just clenches up and screams until he is let off of it (sometimes this is quite a long time). He doesn't appear to be constipated.
Thank you all for your responses!

Aramenta,

Short of potty training not much it's caused from him relaxing enough. Has he been constipated? I know you say he's not ready to potty train but I would go by a stand alone potty seat and when you see him starting to bear down in the tub put him on the potty---or try putting him on it just before you put him in the tub!!!

My oldest daughter did the same thing. We put her on the potty before bathing her but it didn't help. She eventually stopped on her own. Sorry I can't help. Good luck.

I would sit him on the potty just prior to his tub/ shower. My son was potty training at that age, and was very aware of his movements. We just put him on the potty at the times of days we normally saw a bm or wet diaper. For example, first thing in the morning, after nap, and after the tub. (We had the problem of him wetting in his towel after tub, so we put him on after instead of before.) Good luck!
