When I was still in the hospital after my c-section my week old baby girl wouldn't stay latched, and when she did she'd suck 2-3 times and go to sleep. They had me supplement formula and pump when she wouldn't eat, and said if after a full feeding shes not satisfied to give formula till she is. last night she was really upset and we think gassy, the health nurse said to avoid formula, but now I've got an infection, and have been told that infections can make babies irritable from how it affects the milk. We decided to try supplementing formula and pumping tonight because shes hardly stopped crying to sleep since last night and we're all exhausted to see if that helps. I'm still going to breast feed during the day so she gets what she needs from me, but I really don't want to feed a baby thats mostly been great through the night something that makes her cranky when mom, dad and baby are exhausted. Anyone have any other ideas, or opinions on this. I don't know if I should listen to the health care nurse or the hospital nurses and lactation consultant.
