Breastmilk Sensitivities and Formula

My son is 9 weeks and having some difficulties with sensitivities to my breastmilk. I have tried taking things out of my diet and adding things but he continued to break out all over his face, head, neck, and chest. We wondered if it was from giving him expressed breastmilk in bottles but it happened when he breastfed as well. We tried washing the clothes in different detergent. Nothing helped. We gave him a full 24 hours of pure formula to see if there was a difference: he hardly broke out at all!!! We went back to breastmilk and he still breaks out but not as much. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, we wanted to try making the formula with breastmilk instead of water to see if there was any reaction to that. However, we have been told by several people/pediatricians that this would be dangerous (no examples of why) and several others & pediatricians that there should be no problems. Any comments regarding this?

Because formula is designed to be close to breastmilk, mixing the two would be like overdosing on the vitamins. Some babies might be ok with that, but some would not and it's not worth the risks. If he is having an allergy to something, you need to try and narrow down what it is. It is something that could continue with other foods and get worse.

Quit milk and dairy products. It could be a lactose things. Have you tried lactose free formula? Keep us posted!

You may want to try a soy based formula as well. Some babies are allergic to breast milk.

Try taking all lactose out of your diet. Your son may have a sensitivity to it. Also you can't make formula with breastmilk because it will be too rich. Formula is made to be as much like breastmilk as possible and is made to be mixed with water only. Keep with the breastfeeding-a rash is just a symptom that something is off-nothing dangerous. Keep your diet bland and lactose free (you can buy lactose free whole milk to help with your milk production). If he does good with your milk then, start adding fruit and veggies slowly-one at a time and see if he has any reactions. The same with meat. If he breaks out after you eat apples-avoid apples. You will find that you will do this when you indroduce baby food. If you get overwhelmed and feel you can't continue with breastfeeding, know that your child will thrive just as well on formula. Good luck!
