Either seat is going to be a decent choice. All seats on the market comply with the same safety standards, and they are not required to release the actual test data...so we don't really know about one seat being safer than another.
The best thing is probably to take a look at both and try them out in the vehicle to get a good idea of which would fit better. I'd also suggest taking a good look at the carrier portion to get a good idea of how well you like that. (For example, I chose to go with the smaller Graco Snugride, which had a shorter shell and lower weight limit, because having a lightweight carrier was important to me. This meant that the seat only lasted us about 6 months, but I was okay with that.) Play with harness adjustments and other parts to see what is going to be easy for you to use. The Chicco is very popular right now. It also has the benefit of having a somewhat smaller base, so when you don't have the seat in it, it'll take up less room in the car. The Britax does have the anti-rebound bar, which is also a nice feature. Graco's infant only seats are good as well....

believe it or not graco is 1 of the very best carseats out there! as long as the seat has a 5 piece harness and you can install it in to your car correctly then your pretty good also all seats have an experation date on the side (very important). those other seats are also good but your really just paying (alot) for the name, they are also kind of a new brand. graco was around before i was even born and every year they improve there seats. remember 9 out of 10 carseats are installed wrong, the best way to keep your baby safe besides the seat is to make sure its in right
