My son is 7 1/2 months he has a virus that is causing Bronchiolitis. We went to the ER on Friday night cuz he was having retractions and wheezing. They started him on a steriod, and told me to continue his antibiotic (he also has an ear infection). He's also on albuterol becuase we thought he may have asthma, he started on breathing treatments about a month ago. He's not wheezing as much not that he's on a steriod. But he still sick (coughing, vomiting, diaheria, no appetite). I'm doing my best to keep him hydrated and him from wheezing too bad. I was just wondering if any other mom's have dealt with this? Advice & encouragement would be appreciated.

I had my 6 month old girl in hospital last week for about 4hrs for breathing difficulties, she too had Bronchiolitis and was given ventolin and then put on oxygen for 3hrs until her oxygen levels came back up! Itt was so scary, this is my 3rd child and I have never had to deal with it before! We are now on day 10 and she is still wheezing, so we are back to the doctors today! Bronchiolitis is a virus and no antibiotics will help unfortunately, the ER doctors told me that the virus peaks on day 5 (which is when we were in hospital) and then they slowly start to get better! Apparently the horrible cough hangs around for about 2 weeks, so about 3 weeks and all should be good (I am hoping that is the case!). You can make your bub comfortable by elevating the cot mattress, I kept giving my girl warm baths, she likes the water and the steam seemed to help her settle a bit, if your boy has no appetite (as my girl did), just don't worry aboout food, keep offering a milk feed every hour to reduce the risk of dehydration, my little girl had started to dehydrate, and they said if she didn't improve, they would have to put a tube down her throat to feed her! I would suggest to keep going back to the doctors every couple of days just to get a check up, babies dehydrate very quickly as they are so small, you also want to check that they don't loose too much weight! Like Pip said, its kinda something you just have to ride out, I hope your boy gets better soon!

It's horrible, I had 2 under 2 with it at 1 stage. It seems to last 4ever too. You can only do your best and ride it out. Good luck :0)
