Butt and Pee-Pee Obsession

My 4 yr old daughter has a new obsession but butts and pee-pee's... I say that it is a normal thing that all kids will go through at some point, she will be playing with her dolls and point at the butts and say what is this with a goofy look on her face but she definately knows what it is... My husband on the other hand thinks that it is totally inappropriate and not normal for girls to talk this way... I think he is just blowing it way out of proportion??? Any thoughts???

Totally agree with the ladies that have replied to you.Jodi Adams reply made me laugh... it reminded me of some moments with my son, when you just want the ground to open up and swallow you.and they are both right...she will grow out of it. First time I've used this circle of mums and I think it's brilliant. thank heavens for mummy's . Take care

This made me laugh too! My daughter is only 16 months old, so I'm not speaking from personal experience, but I too think it is a phase. Children are learning about their bodies and thats a good thing. I agree that you can tell her not to talk about these things in public, but at home I don't see a problem with her just asking questions. She will grow out of it eventually!

Shannon, sorry, your post made me laugh :) My 4 year old is exactly the same. She even made up a song about vaginas and boobs the other day, I nearly fell over, but boy it was funny. She also threatens to fart on people (I think, however, she got that one from her older brothers).



This sort of behaviour is perfectly normal at this age for boys and girls. They are discovering the world around them, and it is actually the age at which they are discovering and becoming more aware of their bodily functions, and the true differences between boys and girls. My daughter is also obsessed with "undies....ewwww gross", and "boys can't be my friend, only girls can". It really is just a phase. All you can do is explain to them that it really isn't appropriate behaviour to talk about these things so loudly, but that if she has any questions about them, she can ask mummy or daddy quietly when you are at home. My daughter doesn't get into it in public anymore, but she still does it at home, but I just ignore it. She'll grow out of it.
