can a hospital make a baby stay by saying she does not weigh enough she weighed 5lb3 oz when born lost a few onces and gained it back her first child came home a premie at 4lb 4oz they said a long as he was eating he could go I am very confused the baby has no other problems

I take it you're asking about someone else? The phrase "her first child came home a preemie"...So, unless you were in the room with the physician when they told the mother that the baby needed to stay, and why...There's most likely a medical reason that the physicians are concerned.
And, if there is a medical concern, and the parent removes the baby regardless, the hospital will pursue child abuse charges for refusal of medical treatment. I've seen it happen.

Hmmm...not sure why the baby cannot come home. I would speak to the pediatrician and see if she can. If it is the hospital ped, and you have another ped, see if the other one can come in and take the baby on as a patient and see what he/she says.

Yes, they can. I had to leave my daughter in the hospital for a total of 10 days because of issues related to her size. She was 5lb 2 oz when she was born, and even though she was full term, she had low blood sugar, and difficulty regulating that, as well as difficulties regulating her temperature and a weak sucking reflex. So I guess it depends on whether the baby may be having some feeding issues, or other minor issues that they want to monitor for a little longer. How long has she been in the hospital, and how much longer are they proposing to keep her?
