Dogs are incredibly keen about sensing changes in behavior, smell and movement. Dogs CAN be trained to sense a seizure and cue their owners to "get down" to a safe position. Some dogs have even been known to LAY on their seizing owners to prevent injury
Dogs, cats and goats (that I've personally seen) can sense a change in barometric pressure and goats will turn and go to the barn for shelter when a storm is coming. Barometric pressure and labor are connected... I would think if an animal that loves you senses something, they are going to try to warn you of what they sense as danger. My dogs do this when it is about to rain. My great big pit will climb in your lap and hide from the storm.
I would adamantly agree that a cat or a dog CAN sense when you are going into labor.

Yeap my dog wont leave any woman alone in my house if they are close to labour. She follows them everywhere, if they are sleeping over (a few have due to my mother being a doula, and using my home for her mothers), she sleeps beside them all night long. My dog also sniffs you private areas near birth, (and when a woman is first pregnant no one can hide a pregnancy in my house lol). She never sniffs a woman otherwise, not even when a woman is on her period.

Loureen, I have heard of that before. I have been a vet tech for many years, and I have had more than once client say the dogs behavior predicted a seizure right before it happened...how amazing theur instincts are.

I don't think mine predicted labor but when we left the house with suitcase in hand to go to the hospital she never even got up and this is a dog with severe seperation anxiety and starts freaking out if I even pack a suitcase let alone walk out to thecar with it, so they know something is going on that's for sure!

That's really interesting, let us know if you do go into labor! When I was a kid I woke up with my cat literally sleeping on my head and our dog at my feet on the bed, later that day we had an earthquake. So I don't discount anything like that, you just never know!
