When the baby starts drinking, it introduces bacteria into the bottle. The longer the bottle sits, the more chance the bacteria has to grow. So, if your child does not finish the bottle within about an hour, you should throw it out. Same thing with baby food, by the way - don't feed from the jar, because this will introduce bacteria. Put what you think the child will eat into a bowl and throw out anything that's left over. I know we all hate to waste food, but it's better than risking food poisoning for your little one!

on dr. sears' website he states that with breastmilk that has been thawed and heated and served, you can use whatever little remaining milk for the next feeding but thats it. If after that theres still some left, throw it out. And i wouldnt suggest doing it often, especially if youre baby's feeding are coming primarily from a bottle and not directly from the breast

I was told formula can sit out without being in the fridge for 2 hours, and breast milk for 8 hours.

I was told No. Bacteria and who knows what else can grow. Best thing to do is make smaller bottles if you don't think she'll finish it. you can always make another one.

No you can't. With breast milk once it's been defrosted, under warm water, not in the microwave, it has to be used immediately. If you pump it can sit out for 6 hours. When you mix the formula you have 1 hour to use it or you can put it in the fridge and then you have 24 hours to use it. confusing, i know. Rule I go by, once i've warmed it or taken it out of the fridge I MUST use it then, otherwise down the drain.

hey Monica, yes u can but refrain from doing it, rather try giving her the milk when she is very hungry, make prepare less so she finishes, if she needs more she will ask for it, so you would then know the quantity that she needs, and u need to be more careful with children so its better to avoid reusing the milk.... :)

No please do not do this. If she doesnt finish it all within an hour of it being warmed up then throw it away. This is a bacteria breading ground.
