Okay, so I check on my baby TONS while she is sleeping to make sure she is still breathing. She is about 12 weeks old. How many other moms do this?

Did this all the time too... But I did also have a video monitor and a thing called Angel something that went under the mattress and would send an alarm if the baby stopped breathing. I believe I got it at Walmart.

Oh Yes, my youngest is 5 months today and I check and feel her chest several times through the night or listen to hear her breathing. I haven't been able to move her to her crib yet in her room because it is so convenient for me to check her with her right beside my bed in her bassinet (good thing we got a really big one). LOL

I did it a lot for a while especially the first month before I put her in her crib,,then I put my angel care monitor into a test more than a few times with the pad sensor for breathing and movement in the crib and it work wonderful! I did trust this monitor was hard at first but now she is now 4 months old and I still occasionally check on her. But all mother check on their little ones!

I have 4 kids age 6 to 19. I check on all of them still. The older kids not for the breatheing issue, my 6 year old however it is a nightly ritual for me to check on him before bed. I go in his room before i go to sleep, hi touch his head, to brush the hair out of his face and place my hand on his chest for a few minutes. When they were younger i had even went as far as to pinch there nose shut slightly just so they had to open their mouths to breathe. Sounds mean but it made me sleep sounder and they didnt wake from it. It is a very normal desire to wake up and check on them. I do this at all hours.

I still do this and my boys are 3yrs and 5yrs. I can't sleep unless I check on them, and then if I wake up in the night, I have to check on them again.

My son will be turning 5 soon and I still check on him every night. I'm sure I'll be doing it when he's 18.... :-) It really is a Mom thing.

I did this with both my daughters (now 43 & 45) and all four of my grand-kids (now 19, 14, 10 & 7 1/2). I've even checked on the babies I took care for friends, etc. It is totally normal and if nothing else, it makes the "mom" or "grandma" feel better--Renée L.

LOL The funniest part of this for me is the fact that I do this with my 14 YEAR OLD son!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not constantly...just when he is sick. But I still go down to the kids' rooms every night and peek in on them. They are 16 and 14 right now!!!!!!!

Oh totally! I constantly check my 9 week old and still check my 6 year old! I asked my friend this same question the other day...she laughed and said she even checks her hubby when he is sleeping quietly ;)

Okay I kept doing it and waking baby up, I don't know how, but I did. So I bought an under the mattress sensor that shows me if baby is breathing and moving. If he stops an alarm goes of after 20 seconds. This has been the greatest monitor ever!! We both sleep better best 80.00 spent for peace of mind!! LOVE IT!http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp...

Good luck!! Get some rest! Baby is okay! LOL, this coming from a fellow breathe checker..lmao!! Take care!

MANY, Haha, and we are all called "weird" for doing it. I have had 5 children and I did it with ALL of them. My oldest is nearly 22 and my youngest is 28months. I STILL check on my 2year old. If it gives you peace of mind, then I would do it, but just keep it balanced as it could (if taken to extreme) lead to neurosis. We love our babies and want them to "survive"...God BLESS you for having HEART that many moms these days lack!

Angle Care makes a monitor that detects babys breathing, it goes under the baby mattress. It is wonderful and gives me peace of mind when I actually do get to sleep.

I still check on my kids and my oldest is 18 and my youngest is 4--the trick is trying to satisfy your need to check on the kids and your need to actually get sleep--I check one last time before I go to bed then I make myself leave them alone--it has gotten easier the older they have gotten.

Tyler is almost a year and I do it all the time. I have an "angelcare" monitor that sounds an alarm if the baby stops breathing. That helps a lot!

I did this a lot with my first until I just started taking him to bed with me and then I was a lot more relaxed and with my second and my twins it's just been a lot easier to have them in bed with me, plus it's way easier for middle of the night breastfeeding.

Oh my Gosh I checked Grayson ALL the time. We were given one of those video/sound monitors and if I cranked it up all the way, I could hear him, so at least that kept me from going into his room every time and touching him. G is 15 months old now, I still sleep with the monitor, but I only check him once right before I go to bed... Check as many times as you want at some point you'll relax it just took some time for me!

I had a friend lose her baby to SIDS. It was difficult to watch the pain and sorrow involved in her loss. All of my children were nursed but one of my babies slept through the night which for me, caused me some anxiety. I came to a decision making moment and that was to continue worrying or do the best that I can and trust God. I decided to do the latter. So... at bedtime I prayed after laying him in his crib and each night got easier knowing that I had done all that I could do and God was really in charge. This gave me peace.

Sweetie - I was so parrinoid when my son was born, he came into bed with me ( I have a queen size and noone to share it so there is lots of room) 4 days after he was born, when his pediatrician put him back into the hospital because he had lost too much weight. ( I had tried to breast feed but I never got any volume of milk, he just sucked at nothing for 15 - 20 minutes at a time) I was positive that he was going to be taken from me and I would loose him forever.

Thank gods for understanding nurses (the hospital dr was an ass), formula and the fact that I can go without sleep. 26 hours later I was bringing him home and we lived in my bed for 5 days only taking breaks for about 45 minutes a day total so his father could see him. I could potty, eat and change the bedding. the rest of the day I was doing nothing but listening to him breath, counting the space of time between each breath and trying not to panic when the number changed because he yawned or something.

now, nearly 16 months later, my son mostly sleeps in his crib and I lay in my bed on the other side of the room listening to him breathe all night until my roomate gets home from work and takes care of him durring the morning while I sleep.

I am no less parinoid, he still sleeps in my bed with me 4 nights a week, but i'm learning slowly to not freak out when he coughs or streches.

If I'm awake I keep a small toy on his tummy so I can just glance over to see if he's breathing :D If I'm not awake and paying attention, I check at least once an hour. It's not just moms though-- my dad used to check on me at least every hour. He even had a little mirror specifically for that purpose :D

I think this is perfectly normal! When my daughter was born, I think I would check her hourly. She is now almost 2 and I still find myself checking her, but no where near as often. It is a legitimate fear for your child, and I believe it to be a motherly instinct. This is what makes you a great mom!

LOL.. well my daughter is almost 15 months and she slept in my room in a pack N' Play until she was 11 months old because I was CONSTANTLY checking!!!!when she was in trhe basinett she was literally right next to me but when she got too big for that I had to transfer her to the pack'N Play and it didn't fit on the side of the bed so I had to move her down to the foot. Completely normal. In facty there are times when i still go in to check on her :)
