I am worried because I've heard so many things about children with diabetes & my daughter has changed so much recently. She is always thirsty and hungry. Even in the middle of the night she gets up hungry and extremely thirsty and I heard these are some signs of it. Should I be concerned or give it some time to see what happens?

my son has type 1 diabetes and the symptoms were weight loss , extreme thirst and wetting the bed. I bought the urine sticks and diagnosed it myself.

I would be proactive and buy the urine strips at the drugstore and check just to be on the safe side

This is a symptom of diabetes together with weight loss and mood swings. To be on the safe side get her blood sugar levels checked. They should be between 3-8mmoles. Your local family Dr can do it. But she needs to fast before you do it. Then if the levels are out of range then they will ask you to do a glucose test, she will have to drink a glucose drink and then 1/2 hr later they take blood and then 1 hr later again.

Hope this helps :)

Many times you can get a free blood sugar monitor from either your pharmacy, insurance carrier, or even One Touch. Ask around and then you can check your daughters sugar levels when ever you are concerned and your own. I am Diabetic and have a three year old and 11 month. I will always worry about that as they grow.

Yes, I would definitely get her checked. It may be nothing and she might just be needing more water or food than she has been taking in. I have had the same things happen to me too but my blood sugar is fine so just to be on the safe side I would go get her checked.
