Chronic ear and sinus infections

I'd take your child to be adjusted by a peds chiropractor!! Its amazing what they can do with that. My son has been adjusted every few months since birth......he is 19 months old and has had 1 ear infection, because of drainage. And it was such a small infection that we didn't know til the doctor told us on a check up. Its a simple procedure and helps them out SO much!! If you have more questions feel free to message me. Our 11 yr old son had terrible ear infections and tubes 4 times. His first infection was at 6 weeks of age, his first set of tubes at 4 months (the Dr. had to cut them down to fit his ears). His Otiolaringologist is my husbands cousin and he tested for allergies with none found. At age 5 we allowed "Dr. Dave" to take his adnoids out (he also had sinus infections) when he put in a set of tubes. He had not had tonsil problems so they were left in, he only needed one more set of tubes after that surgery. The last tubes fell out when he was 9 and he has not had an infection since. "Dr.Dave" told us that our son's ear canals simply weren't slanted as they should be and that would cause fluid to constantly gather there and create bacteria; with the tubes to open up the ear canal, he would go months without infections. If your 2 year old has the same type of ear canals, just keep the tubes in their ears until they grow out of this and they actually do grow out of it. Talk to your Dr. about removing their adnoids as well, it helped our son but he was older when our Dr. did this. I used to use a simple sea water spray to help keep his nasal passages clear and minimize sinus problems to slow down drainage (ask your Dr about this).
This condition was very difficult on our son and he also developed an allergy to antibiotics from being on them so often with the constant ear infections when he was so young. Watch your child closely for reactions to antibiotics if they have to take them often. I wish you both well!

When your 2yr old talks does he/she sound like they have something in their throat, or when sleeping, does he/she snore? That the same thing that was happening to my daughter, she was forever getting sick. I asked questions after questions untill her doctor refered me to an ENT doctor. My daughter is 8yrs old right now, but when she was 5yrs old and after the ENT doctor did testing, she neede to have her tonsels out, and sometime the Adnoids are what causes sinus problems are taken out also. My daughter didn't have that done. It made a big difference after wards,

Talk with your doc about getting the tonsils removed. They do effect the sinus' and the ears. I had a step daughter that counldnt hear properly. It was an actual medical problem and when they were removed, she could hear better. When the tonsils are too large, the sinus' dont drain properly and then get backed up and when that happens, the ears are effected next. Amazingly enough, they are all intertwined. Also, my middle son had sinus' that were always giving him troubles. He is now four and it is slowly going away. So there is hope. Saline is a definate, and also try going to a health store and getting some natural aid...I use an earache remedy made from grapefruit extract. It is wonderful stuff and I swear by it. My oldest son used to go to the doc every other week when he was one for ear infections; canals were too small. I used that oil and it was the last time he got ear infections. He is now 9 yrs old. It seems a little far fetched at times, but natural remedies are sometimes better than going to the doc, and cheaper too. No, Im not a health nut or a freak that doesnt believe in docs. I swear by them mostly, but even they have told me to try some natural remedies. Good luck. Hope all works out!

It sounds like it might be how the canal of his ear is structured, but he should out grow it as he gets older. Definately keep an eye on it because you don't want him to lose some of his hearing. Another thing make sure that he is on an antibiotic that is for sinus infections, i.e. augmentin, cipro. They attach to the bacteria and kill it, instead of just killing it. My ENT told me that it is a must when treating a sinus infection so if they try to push amoxicillen tell them forget it. Hopefully this helps.

A two year old's sinus cavities are so small, when they get a stuffy or runny nose, it quickly effects the ears and sinuses, as they are all connected. My daughter had quite a few ear and sinus infections up until just a few months ago. Pretty much the only thing I could suggest doing would be to give saline solution through the nose frequently as soon as he gets a stuffy nose. This will thin the moucus so it will run out of the nose rather than getting backed up in the sinuses and ears.

Hopefully the 2 year old will just grow out of it. I had a friend with a son who suffered cholesteatoma from chronic ear infections, so I strongly urge you to keep seeking medical help whenever your child has a flare up. It could be congenital defect...what does your doctor suggest? Don't they have any preventive suggestions?
