Clenching Fists

My daughter is now 6 months old and she prefers to have clenched fists. she does open her hands to grab things and she loves to scratch her bed mattress (open and close her hands) ... she loves to bash things most times with her hands closed .... other times she slaps down with open hands ....

She is my first, so obviously i am paranoid about anything lol .... does anyone have a youngster her age that does this? (clenching fists) ... and when they grew out of it? i read its about 3 months but i highly doubt that .... and babies did have clenched fists most times in the womb ....

I have started putting her on the floor on her back with a arch of toys above her so she learns to coordinate her reaching and such and have open hands when reaching ....

any opinions are appreciated!!

I'm not sure. My son in 9 months now, and he definitely doesn't seem to keep his fists closed anymore, but I do remember having the same concerns you mention a few months back. I just glanced through some of my son's 6 month baby photos (always looking for an excuse to do that!) and he seemed to have at least one fist closed in like half the pictures. If she's able to open her fists when she wants and can grab at things, it probably isn't a big deal - certainly ask the doctor, though.
