(I'm 38 weeks 5 days pregnant, 1st baby) So beginning yesterday at about 1pm, I started getting contractions at first completely irregular, but more than I'd ever had before in one day, by 10 pm they had progressed to being regular, about 7-9 minutes apart and lasting almost a minute. I started getting super excited thinking I was finally going into labor! All night they continued on, some contractions not painful, some bad enough to wake me up from my deep sleep, I got about 3 hours sleep last night because I couldn't sleep through most of them. Walking gave me really bad back labor, and put the contractions to coming every 1-4 minutes apart. By 8 am they were still going strong, not changing in time though. I had had about 8 BM during this time and at 2 am lost my whole mucus plug all at once, plus the upset stomach that hit me. I was sooo sure I had gone into early labor. BUT now I took a nap at 1:30 woke up a half hour ago, and no contractions now. Or at least if I am having contractions I can't tell when they are beginning or ending. I don't understand, what happened over the last 14 hours? My BH were NEVER like this, I never ever felt them unless I was pushing on my belly than I would notice it tightening... Was this false labor that was so much like real labor... UGH I'm so frustrated now! Has anyone else gone through this?

Oh yeah, that's exactly what happened with my 4th child. I would have contractions pretty consistently for an hour or two and they would get to be about 5 minutes apart, then they'd be done. My water broke the following week. Good luck!

Your mom is right, that is pretty normal, laying down during the start of labour for many woman will stop/slow down the labour. Since you lost your plug, I would get walking, it will help speed things along. The only time in a womans life that gravity is a womans friend is during labour. LOL

Call the hospital.
I can't believe that your doctor has not provided you with numbers for emergency! Even if it is someone else you can talk to.....That does not sound responsible.
You should get yourself checked out in any case, no matter what other women in the family went thru.
Anyway...Good luck....Hope it all goes well for you and your baby :-)

Is someone there with you? If not, keep your phone on you please. So you can call for help if you need to. Good luck and congrats!

No I haven't talked to him. As far as I know he's closed for the rest of the week, and I don't have an emergency number for him. So if I were to talk to anyone I'd have to phone the hospital, and they are damn near useless (lots of experience with them dealing with miscarriages and other stuff, and they just don't care). So I think I'll just wait it out. They have started back up again, but they are still pretty much painless and are between 10-20 min apart.

I did talk to my mom, and supposedly all the women on her side of the family went through very mild contractions for a couple days and than they all had really quick active labors (and I mean like 4-5 hours from painful contractions till birth). So I'm hoping that's just what is happening with me right now.

My labor did the same thing. Drink some coffee or soda, walk some more, and try to relax. The more tense you are the harder your body will fight labor.

I have 3 kids the oldest is 19 and then youngest is 7. I haven't gone thru that, have you talked to your doctor? If the mucus plug is gone, doctor may want to check you out. Just a thought. God Luck!
