I will try to make this short as possible. We rent in a gated neighborhood and I have three children 11, 9 and 7. One neighbor, who neighbors all have a problem with thinks she owns the neighborhood. She child can ride the scooter and bike all over, which is against the rules. One day her child(who is 9) was out playing with my children and 2 other older kids in the neighborhood. They were kicking the ball back and forth and it happens to roll into a plot of flowers that is no bigger than a small bathroom. All the kids go in there to retrieve the ball, including her child! The neighbors husband walks by, who is the president of the neighborhood and does not say a word, she walks by grabbed her son as they were leaving and did not yell, but in a very nasty tone and a hand circling motion that “THIS is NOT a playground and if I see you going in the flowers again I will have the head gardener call you!” My children are pretty respectful when it comes to adults. My oldest child said to her, ”we only went in to get the ball and dogs go in there all the time.” My kids all came inside and was very upset by what and how she had talked to them. I had my husband walk down to their house to talk with them, but they were not home, so I called her and left a very irate message. She has done other things to me in the past and I just have had enough! I called her back the next day and was trying to talk civil but she kept interrupting me and calling my child disrespectful and me immature. So, by the end of that conversation my throat hurt from yelling. I told her she should have walked 5 steps to my door to talk to me about it if it bothered her that bad. She then said I was not out there watching my children. My oldest is 11, who was out there with another 12 and 11 year old. It was infront of my house. My question is, did I do the right thing? I believe my children over this lady and totally can see her doing that. I asked the other child who is 12 and her mom what happened. I just want to make sure I did the right thing.
