I'm a mom with ADHD and depression and have a LOT of issues struggling with dealing with my disorders and still being a good mom. It takes a lot of effort to make it through the day sometimes and I wonder...how do you other ADHD and/or depressed moms do it?

As a psychologist myself, I can say that the other responses so far are what I would recommend also. I also think it's important to have a framework for your parenting, like a strategy or method. It helps you feel secure and especially if your child is young and you start now, it gives them security too. I pull from several methods and it helps me get through those challenging moments because I have something to go to. It sounds funny, but the strategies that Supernanny uses are a good place to start. Others that I have recommended or used are 1-2-3 Magic and Parenting with Love and Logic. I think it doesn't really matter what you use (and no one method will always work). The most important factors are that it makes sense to you and you're comfortable with it, that it's mostly focused on teaching and rewarding appropriate behavior, and that it's basic enough for the child to understand and be applied across settings (home, grocery store, etc.).

I suffer from seasonal depression and have a husband with ADHD. During the winter, I have been using anti-depressant medication. This year I tried Welbutrin and it was excellent!

In the future, I am seriously looking into cognitive-behavioral therapy. This has been shown to have great long term results with depression and other conditions. I strongly urge you to look for a CBT specialist (psychologist).

What kind of treatment are you following? How old are your kids?

Being a mom is challenging in and of itself. Don't get down on yourself as long as you are doing the best you can. Feel free to PM me anytime if you need some support.

Can you access any helpful agencies? Parents groups? Join a play group? There's probably internet forums that would be helpful too- where you can have 'conversations' online with other people in the same situation. The most important thing is to have a good support network around you!
