I put it in and cover it with water and set it on low all day long. The longer it cooks the more tender it will be. I usually cook mine for 8 or more hours.

I just put it in the slow cooker and cover it with water until it's submerged. Leave it on low all day and it's perfect.

I usually cover with cold water, add a whole peeled onion, a few whole cloves, a tablespoon of brown sugar and half a cup of malt vinegar and cook on low setting all day (8 hours approx).

When I cook it I just put it in the slow cooker, cover it w / water (and a can of light beer, but that's optional) and add chunks of carrot & potato - cook until it's tender and strings apart (on the high setting- usually about 4 hours) - or 'all day' on the low setting.
I add sliced cabbage to the slow cooker about 1/2 an hour before it's done.
(If you don't use the beer, try adding about 1/4 cup of brown sugar if you like your beef & veggies 'sweet')
Good luck!
