I see so many women using curse words in their comments. I was wondering if you cuse in front of your children? I'm not trying to be better than anyone else, just curious.

I occasionally let my mouth slip around my 6 month old. Sometimes when his daddy is playing his video games, he has a few choice words as well. I try not to do it & I get onto his dad for doing it too, but sometimes it just happens. :( Sadly, once they get into school, I'm sure they'll hear it a lot & come home asking what the words mean. I'm going to try my best to watch my mouth since he'll be picking up on these words very soon.

I try to not say them at all, as my son will pick up everything that he hears, I also asks those who are around him to not curse and teach him any words, though I'm sure one day he will hear one and pick up on it.

I believe we used more bad words while my kids were under 2 then we do now. Now my one daughter is in kindergarten and the teacher has sent her out of class for her mouth. Everything we do and say the kids will pick up on.

I do. And my kids also curse. If it's considered a socially acceptable word once they're 18, I figured no reason to ban it when they're 3. They swear rarely and appropriately. If they get hurt, they swear. If my daughter with high medical needs sees someone in blue scrubs, she swears. I can't blame her; people in blue scrubs have hurt her more than most POW's. If a child isn't allowed to vent frustration like an adult is, in a way that doesn't cause harm, they will in another way. Our oldest son is autistic and didn't learn to speak at all until he was 4. We informed the school that regardless of the words he uses, he will not be punished for speech they didn't like, because he was speaking! Huge deal. And again, he doesn't use swear words unless he has a reason. And the school has no problem with it. And I haven't gotten any phone calls for violent kids, so apparently it's something.

my husband and i try not to curse at all around our kids, but it does happen. I also have a grandfather that I'm very close with who was a sailor (so just imagine some of the words that come out of his mouth lol). I have explained to my daughter that those are grown up words and that even from grownups they are not nice. She often will correct me and say "mommy that's not a nice word" (that word by the way is often "stupid" lol)

My 4yr old know that all swear words are "Dada words"!! And some, like bugger or shit, are Muma words - not that I say them all the time! She knows not to repeat them, she did once and didn't like the consequence!

Its kind of like "do as I say, not as I do" but whatever you do don't say what I say. Lol

Not intentionally...but it does happen. Im Italian...and I remember growing up in a house full of cursing. (Not in a mean way! It was just the norm for us). My son is 7 months and I know it wont be long until he picks up on what Im saying. Just another thing that I need to work on....no mother is perfect. But my son will also learn that even if I do slip up once in a while, it does not make it right from him to curse.

I only curse in front of my kids if I'm infuriated, like when the guy in the pick up not only nearly hit me when he cut me off, but flipped me the bird when I honked. I had to apologize to the kids, explain why the words weren't nice to say, then define "douchebag".... **sigh**
