My son is almost 4 and has been complaining of the same pains for months now, however I have noticed that he is getting alot taller! Some children start growing faster then others, so I would just think it is that.

I find that the damp air makes my legs ache. I am 33 and I can remember my mom staying up all night when I was a kid rubbing my legs. I now use a hot rice bag and a dehumitifier. rumitosis could be the problem. My doctor thinks that is my problem.

Another more serious condition could be Lupis. Though I would say that it is less of a chance.

i am 34 yrs old and still get pains in my legs and feet. This pain can also be due to bad circulation. I get very cold hands and feet. my advice. use things that are worm to ease the pain. In winter make them wear socks to bed. Once their feet are cold it much harder to ease the pain. Your muscles go very tight,so lots of massage. I have to chidren of my own now. They are 5 and 9. I have always massaged them with cream most days. lots of hot baths. sometimes salt baths. Even though salt in their food is bad. Sometimes salt in baths can help with the pain. dont know why but it does. Thankfully so far neither of my children suffer like i do. hope you can find a way to get things under control.

sounds like restless leg syndrome... i have it as an adult and have my whole life... it was at it's worse when i was pregnant... does she feel like she needs to shake them out? that's how mine would feel... sometimes walking around helps to get the circulation back or u could have her elevate them on a pillow

hiland has restless leg syndrome dissolvable pills. Homeopathic I get them at walmart. My daughter who is now 11 always complained of leg pains.She was always above average in heighth. She is noe 5'4" at 11.

hi all again, my daughter is now under the hospital for her hips and legs. she has had blood tests, x-rays and even had radiation aswell all to no avail and all came back fine. they are now suggesting things like hip disorders like hip dysplasia and perth's diaeses as this is getting worse and more frequent and happening during the day aswell as night although thats how it begun to start with. although she is nearly 10 the sleepless nights are like having a newborn again but i wouldnt change her for all the tea in china. mummy loves you baby girl xxxx

My 31/2 yr.old son has been having 'growing pains' for about 8 months or more now. I took him to the doctor, and as mentioned above was told that, "he is too young for growing pains". The doctor ordered x-rays of his hips & legs, the x-rays were normal, there was nothing structurally wrong, but the pains continue! I am now convinced they are growing pains, last night he had another bout of them, it's not every night, rather a couple of times a month, but my heart breaks for him when it happens, I feel so helpless!!! It was great to read the ideas mentioned, I will try the wheat bag & the potassium rich foods, I had been wondering if there was a dietary solution for this. Always helps soooooo much to read what other mom's have to say, the information is invaluable!!! Especially when you aren't getting any suggestions from your medical professional!

hi, my daughter started getting growing pains just b4 she was 2yrs old. she is still getting them to this very day. this always happens at night. the reason for this is because the body is relaxed so everything hurts more then. i have been told my daughter could go through this right up til her teens or til she stops growing. i give my daughter paracetamol and ibuprofen for this and this seems to work sometimes we use wheatbags warmed. my daughter is going 9 and is already over 4 & a half ft tall.

I don't believe that at that age they are too young for growing pains, my daughter is now 6yrs old but has had leg pains at certain times since she was around two. Hers is always the back of her knees, almost like cramping, and at night time. I place a hot water bottle under her knees and cover her legs to keep her warm. Sometimes it requires tylenol but more often then not the warm helps her. My doctor has agreed that it is growing pain, I hope as she gets older it will stop,poor girl!! Maybe there is a natural product that may help, you should try a health shop. They have lots of stuff that is safe for kids to use and better then over the counter stuff.

Yes, I would call them growing pains.  Any doc who says there is no such thing as growing pains isnt very smart and has never experienced them.  What Clara and Tera said is great advice.  Just thought Id let ya know that there are growing pains.  My brother had them up until the time he was a late teen, hes now 6'8"  My son who is 22 mos also has them, they are never to young to get them,he grew 2 inches in one month recently (he over 3 ft tall now).  I love docs but sometimes they really dont know what they are talkin about. Advice from other moms can be priceless =)

my daughter went through the same thing, same age, and i cant even remember how long it took to go away...i do know that i live in a highly populated deer area and got so concerned that it might be lime disease that i got her checked for that too! did she have any tics on her at all? Negative, of course... :)

Give your daughter potassium rich foods, Amy was right about bananas, they're a great source of it. "Growing pains" are usually a lactic acid build up, which can happen to anyone. Postassium, lots of water, and tons of love should help her feel better. :)

I have only just joined this group and was so surprised to see this question pop up!  My son is now 6 and has been having these so called "growing pains" since he was about 2 years old.  We do the same as Tera with the rice bag and that seems to work.  I sometimes would also give him panadol if it was really bad.  They always happen late at night.  Most doctors have said it is Growing pains however one doctor told me once that there is no such thing as growing pains and that it was just cramps so who knows!  But it has also eased my mind reading all the replies that my son too isn't the only one.

I believe that your child is going through growing pains.  Both of mine did, and massage, heat/cold (whichever will work better) and an analgesic like Tylenol helped them both.  Some children just feel the growing more than others, and it usually coincided with a growth spurt (I'd ntoice that the clothes and shoes didn't fit from one day to the next!).  Just be patient.  Also, giving them a banana or an orange will help reduce the cramping feeling in the muscles.

My daughter complained of the same when she was about 2 and off and on since then, and we found it was growing pains, it always happens right before none of her pants fit anymore (she grows in big spurts instead of little by little)!  Our doc, who is an amazing pediatrician and been one for well over 30 years, said that growing bothers some children more than others and the rate of growth is different in all children so there is no reason to say that young children can't have pain while growing.  We got a rice bag and warmed it for her at night, since that is when it bothered her the most and it really seemed to help.

i dont have a medical answer, but ice packs wrapped with an ace bandage seem to do the trick so my daughter can fall back asleep.  She is 7 now, but has had them for the past 4 yrs. I simply get an ace bandage, wrap the inflicted area,, add ice pack, then contine to wrap, and she goes right back to sleep and we are all happy!!  it won't hurt to try it.  At first, i had to hold her until she fell back asleep, but it wasn't long until she was convinced and began waking and asking for ice.........  simple solution and cheap!
