I am extremly happy with my life right now. My boyfriend just proposed, my kids are being good, my job is not stressful. But I have no motiovation. I get up and dont feel good. I dont want to do anything but sit on my butt and thats NOT me. I have no energy. I was wondering if you could have depression even when your happy?

I have postnatal depression too. Whatever is causing you to feel low know that you aren't alone, ungreatful for what you have or going mad! I went to the Dr's when my twins were about 6 months as I'd got to the stage when I'd wake up in the morning and feel so exhausted that I couldn't wait until the evening so I could put them and my then 2 year old back to bed. I knew I loved them,my husband and my life but also knew something wasn't quite right. There's absolutely no shame in asking for help if you feel you need it.Take care :-)

You can absolutely be depressed when you are happy! It's a chemical imbalance in your brain. Nothing that you can help. I had to go to the doctor for this same thing. They put me on Prozac and I've been fine ever since...in fact I'm off of the prozac now and doing great! Just talk to your doctor. And yes...Prozac you think ...CRAZY people right? Nope, it's not. I almost refused to get on it because I knew I wasn't crazy...I just never wanted to do anything but lay around and the littlest things would make me cry. It's nothing you can help and you'll feel much better if you just go see a doctor about it!

Yes you can have depression when your life is at a happy stage. It doesn't mean your not happy, depression is an imbalance in your brain. =) Don't fret over it, go see your doctor and they can guide you best. It could also be that your anemic (iron deficiency) I had it when I was pregnant with my last baby and was on supplements until she was about 6 months old. It also causes you to be tired a lot with no energy. It's a simple blood test to find out. I'm sure you'll be fine in no time, book an appointment and ask your doctor what next step to take to find out what's going on inside. =)

My kids are now 7 & 10, but I suffered from this after my 2nd was born.... I felt so guilty, because I had everything I had ever wanted.....I felt like I was ungrateful or something. Talked to my doctor, took Zoloft for 1 1/2 yrs.... then weaned myself off of it. One thing that helped me when things were really bad was working out regularly!! Those endorins really do help!! Something about a build up of unreleased adrenaline....

I am suffering from Post-natal depression that didn't kick in until my son was about 8 months old (after he stopped nursing at night). I also read recently that a large proportion of post-natal depression cases are caused by low thyroid hormone levels - I know mine was low! So go have that checked out. But if you have been feeling low for more than a few weeks, it may be depression, even if you are happy overall.

Im so glad im not the only person with this problem! I absoloutly love my husband and being a stay at home mommy to my two baby boys. I just never have any energy either. Before I had my oldest I was always working and being busy but now since I had both my boys im so tired all the time and dont feel like doing anything. I thought it was just the baby blues but now my youngest is almost 6 months old and im not getting any better. I think I need to make an appointment with my doctor to figure out whats going on.

I agree with Carrie. You can be happy with your life overall, but if your body isn't doing well (like having low levels of a vitamin, iron, or something) you may have a hard time getting going. I had low levels of iron during my pregnancy and it made me so much more tired than I had been! Once I started taking an iron supplement I felt so much better! Another thing to check on is if it could be your B.C. If you are taking a hormone B.C. it can throw you off as well. I hope you get it figured out soon. Good luck!

I would definitely get your doctor's opinion. It sounds like an imbalance of a vitamin/mineral/hormone. And talk to both your primary and your gyn! The more opinions on this the better.
