I am sure you have read these great replies, and most are helpful. I have been a Mother and teacher for many years; my daughter also was allergic to everything so I learned early on to look at diet first and what in the immediate enviornment: her bed, what type diaper, products used on the body, and if you were breast feeding then, what you are eating. Always yes, rule on the yeast infection which are not uncommon. I did not have a lot of money but was seeing how little help the traditional creams and ointments helped and how great the old or homeopathic aids were the best. You need not buy the most expensive. I tried applying plain youghurt on the infected area and then a cloth if possible or good brand organic type diaper, if only for a short while, it was worth it and only a few dollars more. Next, we used a mixture I made upon advice of ground oatmeal (I used my own mortor and pestel) and applied this mixed with water or better yet, chamomile singular note oil, found in any good health food store or Whole foods and many pharmacies. It is worth the expense as it calms and soothes, read many product labels, it is used but in many commercial treatments, it is last or next to last and not enough. This oatmeal mixture/paste mixed with water and 2 to 4 drops of the oil, is applied to the area and then covered ro left in open for awhile if at all possible. Careful not to allow any oils in genetalia area. These oils have been used for a lifetime by our ancestors and are the basis of all good treatments.
There is also, Baby Gold Bond Powder, Burt's Bees baby ointment, Avalon Organic for baby, all lasting a long time and well worth the price. If I had to choose one, I would go for the oatmeal or yoghurt treatment and a good pure powder. My daughter also had a history of exzema in the family so we really had putn in the time to find a pure and cost effective treatment. I know it hurts to see your little one in discomfort, amazing that the so called old treatments are not so old. I hope your little one is well.

Ohh, yes, Lotramin might work well. My son had thrush when he was a couple months old (buildup of yeast in the mouth), and it transfered to my nipples when he was nursing. Burned like they were on fire. The Lotramin was recommended by my doctor (for my boobs, not the baby) and it fixed everything.

My pediatrician recommended Lotriman (the cream for jock itch). For girls usually the rash is due to a fungus and we used this on my daughters when they were little and it worked great. You put the cream on and then desitin or what ever you use on top of it. For my kids, the rash cleared up in a day or 2.

Have you tried sunning her bum? diaper rash ( as you have figured out by now) is caused by moist, irritated skin rubbing against itself. I am not saying turn her into the Coppertone baby, but exposing her bum to air will help dry it out- sometimes creams only make the problem worse-- doubly so if your child has allergies. This may sound crazy to you, but if you don't have the convenient window suitable for baby lounging, take a hair dryer( set on cool of course) and air dry her bum for a few minutes once or twice a day.

My Four year old suffered with diaper rash from day one until she was potty trained. We tried everything! Kept going to the doctor and they kept saying the same things over and over.
The only thing we found was bag balm. You just should be careful around her girly parts.
http://www.walgreens.com/store/catalog/M...

It was originally made for the cows utters to protect them against the harsh winters in the north east. I used it on my daughter and the left over i would rub on my elbows and feet and it works wonders and it is thicker than A&D so it will protect her butt from the moisture. When she has a break out you should still us the diaper rash cream and then put bag balm over it. It was a lifesaver!

hope this helped.

My son had a really bad diaper rash when he was a new born and it turned out that he was allergic to the diaper that we were using. We switched diapers and haven't had a rash since.

I would take her to the pediatrician, if possible. There is a prescription that is called Riley Butt Creme that is miraculous. Diaper rashes are nothing to fool around with. My youngest used to get them alot, and she ended up getting Mursa 3 different times and having to have a surgeon go in and drain them and cut out pieces all 3 times. It was very painful for her and she was admitted to the hospital every time. Please, please try to take her to the doctor. Good luck!

if it IS a yeast infection, keep your baby out of a diaper as long as possible. yeast thrives in damp places, i.e., the mouth, a wet diaper, etc. after every diaper change, let your baby air dry after cleansing, for about 20 minutes. lay your baby on their belly while airing out, with a diaper underneath so they don't pee all over the place

That rash could be caused by a food allergy. What do you feed your child?? You could try this ointment called Corona. You can get it at any farm supply store. It's mainly used for cow udders, but it works wonders with protecting a rash and keeping it from getting worse. My baby had a rash that I at first thought was a yeast infection, but it turned out she was allergic to her own stool from the formula i was feeding her. As soon as I found out a formula she wasn't allergic to, this horrible open-sore rash was healed within 2 days.

Johnsons & Johnsons make a cream called "destin". It is fantastic. My little girl got it really bad and just the thought of a nappy change made her scream. I used every baby cream there was & was so relieved when I found it. I put desitin on her after her bath & by the morning any signs of her extremely red, sore rash was gone. Just fantastic. Good luck.

My daughter recently had a really bad diaper rash too. I kept using Desitin, but it just wasn't helping. I found a diaper rash cream by Burt's Bees. It is a little more expensive than the Desitin, but it worked so well. It's like $8.99 I think and you can buy it from your grocery store. It's much thicker and a little gritty even, but it cleared up within a day or two of using it.

Sounds silly, but after changing her diaper: Blot the area with Maalox or Mylanta, let air dry, then cover area with Aquaphor. It will clear up quickly. The antacid takes the burn out of it. Worked on all 3 of my boys. GL

What worked for me was changing the diaper every 30 minutes with a 5 minute naked dry off period. A&D or Butt Paste (yes, it's really called that) worked the best for me. Warm oatmeal baths, at least 10 minutes long every other night. Don't buy instant oatmeal though, it reacts differently in the water than the kind you have to cook.

My daughter is the same way. Tried every cream out there, nothing worked until a friend told me to get NYSTATIN cream. Same stuff they use for thrush, only oral form. No prescription, just ask pharmacist, Told my doc I had gotten it and he said I made the right choice.

make sure you sanitze everything that she has contact with in her mouth and diaper area. if the yeast gets somewhere else it can come back with a vengence!

You mentioned that she was also not feeling well, it could be strep. Sometimes instead of a strep throat they will get it other places.

Thank you everyone! I called the doctor and they said to use Lotramin and this other cream that I can't think of the name. The rash is just about all gone, thank god! They also said to do a baking soda bath too so I will have to remember all of this just in case it happens again.

From your description of the rash it does sound like a yeast infection rash, apparently it's fairly common. What worked for us when my daughter had a yeast rash like that was coconut oil - you can get it at most health food stores for a pretty reasonable price and it worked beautifully - she hasn't had anything that bad since. Apparently coconut oil is a powerful antifungal, and since yeast is a form of fungus.... worked a dream. Additionally, I wasn't worried if she got any on her hands (she's at the point where she can take her diaper off) because it is all natural and doesn't have any chemicals in it.

I find that keeping the diaper off (which you said you do) and usung a wet washcloth instead of wipes works. Sometimes the wipes are too harsh on babys sensitive skin.

Make an appointment with your pediatrition. He/she can tell the difference between a rash and yeast. Your daughter could be allergic to the brand of diaper you are using also.

All of the diaper rash creams are so over priced and so played out. ZINC is the best, just plan zinc. It will say to treat poison ivy, sumac, diaper rash etc. It clears in an hr. Completely clear in 24hrs. I swore by it. I dont have babies anymore they are grown. It always work wonders for them.

Is she teething? When my oldest boy was teething it would make him a lil sick and give him a horrible rash from diarrhea. It would blister and he would scream in pain. I would use a warm wash cloth to wipe him instead of wipies and that soothed him alot. I wouldnt put a diaper on him or would use cloth ones with a lot of desitin night time formula. I would also bathe him a couple times a day in Aveeno oatmeal (you can find it at Target or Walmart) and use half a package in warm water to open the skin and let it sink in and heal. Let him play for about 15-20 Mins. I would see results in a day or so and just repeated that every time it happened...

It comes in a green can. it's called bag balm. it's used for cows teets. It is amazing on diaper rash. My son's rash was so bad it would bleed. we tried three prescriptions from the doctor. I was raised on a farm so I finally gave up and got the bag balm. 48 hours no more rash. it was awesome.

I recommend that you not waste your money on those fanct diaper cremes. Yeah some of them work but good old fashion vasoline is the best. I recommend putting on a thick coat so that when your baby uses the bathroom the urine wont burn or irritate the rash. Also change the pamper more frequently and use vasoline everytime. Try not to avoid baby powder for a while until you get the rash under control.

That happened to my daughter once and my Pediatrician told me to use a little neosporin, then lather aquaphor cream on top and finally sprinkle corn strarch on top of all the cream. Sounds wierd, but it worked!!
